The last of us

I've been bored most of the way through it. I only played a bit of the game so it's not that I know the story .. I just find each episode incredibly slow. I've not watched 7 yet (and not itching for it either) but ep. 6 took me about 5 hours to watch as I could only watch 5 to 10 minutes at a time before I had to go off to do something else for a while as I was bored ..

I found the one with the two gay blokes slow, but since then i think it's been really good. You can tell now (Like some others said on the other thread) that one of if not the main premise of the series is to show the bond between the two main characters, and not so much about the 'zombies' which i'm enjoying now.

Christ you're brave saying that on here! I was accused of not just homophobia but racism as well for saying I thought episode 3 (and 4) was pointless and more about the wider message the writers wanted to portray (ie gay blokes kissing on telly is fine, they did that well, it just didn't need a full hour to make the point only to kill both characters off at the end of it).

Episode 4 was nothing to do with Frank and Bill but was also boring in my opinion, and they could have merged 3 & 4 into one. I read on the other thread that some are now saying there won't be enough episodes left in series 1 to finish the story of the game. I wonder how they could have solved that problem.:)

Have to say though since the second half of episode 5 (and we met that massive 'Bloater' mushroom guy) I've really got into it. Basically, I like the episodes with the zombies and I want the show to be a better version of the The Walking Dead. I think this view is sacrilege amongst the gamers who love the game and think it should be superior to that, but sue me. At the end of the day its undisputedly a zombie apocalypse show and if its not supposed to be, the production team have messed up.

I have also found myself way more invested in the 2 main characters over the last 3 episodes. Before that I wouldn't have cared if either had just been ripped apart as they'd spent 50% of the first 4 episodes building up characters who died just as you'd got to know them.
I quite liked episode 7, don't mind the backstory episodes as long as someone gets bitten by a zombie and as long as one or both of the main characters are involved and nearly die. I liked the story between Ellie and Riley (although I don't think we know Riley's actual fate yet?).

What is slow? What are you expecting to happen each episode?

The storyline is moving on about as fast as it can without ignoring loads of key scenes that are pivotal to the story.

I said on the other thread that I bought the game on the back of the series and have been playing along pretty much in time with the episodes (I've just got to the TV tower, so a bit behind) and I've found it a great way of understanding both and it really helps fill in some of the gaps, and am really enjoying the series.

In episode 7, I was constantly expecting something to jump out and was edge of the seat stuff

I am easily the most positive poster about this show on this thread so far, but I’ll give you my two penneth.

For those of us who are watching it because we like zombie/apocalypse stuff (or because Jamie Redknapp recommended it much to Graeme Souness’ dismay) I suppose most of us want to see some zombie stuff, when there isn’t any it feels slow, unless it’s building up to it (which it has done in the last few episodes).

I imagine for those of you who already know the story it doesn’t feel as slow, because you already know what’s going to happen from the game. Maybe it’s easier to appreciate the build up if you aren’t actually waiting to see what happens.

Agree with that re your episode 7 spoiler, hence why I liked it.

I wondered if playing the game in conjunction with the TV series would be good. (Except I don't have a games console, and I'm generally rubbish at games because I never play them)!! - Other than that, it's probably a great idea.

I don't really have any expectations at all, but compared with watching other shows, 'things' don't seem to be happening so fast. I'm enjoying it, but I seem to be among those who find it slow moving, for whatever reason. You mention 'scenes that are pivotal to the story'. Perhaps I don't appreciate that straight away, (having not played the game) and will find out later (if you see what I mean). If you've played the game you know they are pivotal and it's more fun/interesting seeing them maybe?

Something like Game of Thrones, or House of the Dragon, I felt like more went on in each episode, and there was more action. HOWEVER, I do concede something here..... I didn't watch any of Game of Thrones until all ten series had been screened. I then watched the entire show during lockdown, over the course of a month or two.

I'm just wondering if part of what is making 'The Last of Us' seem slow is the fact that you have to wait a week each time for the next episode? I've decided to stop watching, and am going to wait until the end of the series to watch all remaining episodes back to back.
It's not impossible that I've got used to 'on demand' and prefer that way of viewing.

Good point about linear viewing. Although one of the things I like about this show is that it is one a week and I enjoy the cliffhanger aspect.

I spent the entirety of the last episode on edge, I loved it.

Though I suppose part of that is because I knew that at some point they were going to get attacked, I guess there might not be the same tension if you're going in blind.

It's been my favourite new TV programme in years.

Each to their own I guess. I like being able to go straight on to the next episode if I want to. I also don't mind watching the first couple of minutes of the next show, to see the cliff hanger... and then leave it until another time.
During Game of Thrones, I repeatedly Googled spoilers, like which series and which episode certain characters were going to die (like Ramsay Bolton). I don't know why, but it enhanced my enjoyment rather than compromised it! (I think it was the reassurance that he was indeed going to get what he deserved... and others like him)!

(Incidentally, I thought Joffrey Baratheon got off quite lightly).

I was hoping something would happen and it did. If it hadn’t, I’d have been disappointed and slagged off the episode. The tension was fully justified in the end.

She did say in an earlier episode
that she'd been bitten when sneaking in to a mall "by herself", so they did foreshadow what was coming and the fact that something bad was going to happen to Riley which traumatised her.

episode 8 was awesome.
The preacher fella sure got his comeuppance.

Best episode so far and set up for a big finale, although I've no idea what will actually happen.
Surely there'll be some proper zombie scenes too though.

Will it catch up to the game by the end of the series now? Feels like a lot happened.

One thing I don't quite get re you gamers is that surely the fact you know what's about to happen is taking the edge off a bit?
