The Legacy of Lindy Delapenha:

An article for Middlesbrough FC marking Black History Month on Lloyd Lindbergh Delapenha, an outstanding sportsman, Boro's first black footballer and the first Jamaican to play professional football in England.

Whilst at Ayresome Park Lindy combined playing for Boro with coaching and captaining the Jamaican national side, played cricket as a pro for Horden and even performed an exhibition of head tennis on stage with Brian Clough at The Middlesbrough Empire!

Really good article and great to give Lindy this recognition.
Borobuddah interviewed Lindy several years ago and we published in fmttm.
A few years later I interviewed Rondart from Bishop Auckland when he told me of staging Cloughie v Lindy head tennis competition at The Empire. The competition ran through the week, with the final held after a home match on a Saturday.
Delapenha must have been some player and sportsman. Wonderful that his story is interwoven with our own story at Boro.
