The locked Boro shop Q&A thread

A bit like you - I read the thread- thought the response from mfc was defensive and mostly self congratulatory but the line about record shirt sales struck me immediately as a right load of bo110x
I posted that line because I had been told it by the club previously.
They didnt submit it as an answer but I thought everyone should be aware that despite all the shortages and size problems we are selling more shirts.
I also know that the shop is selling out of stock at times but they are selling high volumes in general this season. ie it is not a failing operation

I think “at times” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there Rob. The sheer quantity of complaints on here is evidence that all is not rosy despite the line from the club.

An incredible amount of heavy lifting.

As for it not being a failing operation. I don't think anyone is arguing it is from a "making money" perspective.

From a "meeting customer needs" it is failing. Unless they think everyone is making it up about buying fake shirts from China because no one can get hold of the genuine article or not being able to get hold of kids shirts for Christmas etc.

Pretty hard not to make money when you're the only show in town and have a captive market. Although they've managed to create a competitor, pretty sure most hadn't heard of DH gate a couple of years ago. So well played on that front.

Oh I should add I do remember now why the thread was locked - nothing sinister but just so everyone could read the Answers and they didn't become lost. The debate was on another thread - not a Sticky thread.

Never thought for one moment it was a failing operation.

I just don’t buy the spin that we are selling more replica shirts now as a mid table champo club than we were during the glory years of the 90s and 00s when we were winning promotion, getting to cup finals and were an established premier league club and gaining national/international attention …..sorry….

Boro were never huge sellers of merchandise, we only sold in the stores until we went online. I can well believe we are selling more now than back in those days due to worldwide shipping.

Believe it or not Boro have never been a fashionable club and we’ve only sold our merchandise in Boro and not even In JJB, sports direct etc.

I believe the staff when they say it’s record sales.

The figures should be easy for them to produce then.

We were briefly when we had Juninho and Rav. Everyone knew who we were, including overseas and attracted a fair few "fans" not from the area.

Not that Steve "Parochial" Gibson made any effort to capitalise on it. Local shirts for local people etc 🤪

Go and ask them and I’m sure they will provide you with what you need.
The onus is on them as they've made the claim. And if you’d read the thread you’d see I’ve already asked the person who posted the claim on behalf of the club where I can find more information, or who I should contact.

It’s all conjecture.

Until one of us is proved wrong, we can both believe what we want.
