The Music (band)

Who remembers this band from 20 years ago?

Anyone who ever went to the Empire on a Saturday in the early 00s, that's who. The place went nuclear when any of their tracks came on. Great licks and vocals.

Strangely, rarely mentioned by anybody these days. A few top 20 hits, none in the top 10. Soundtrack to my early 20s however.

I know the singer did a short stint inside (what for?) and toured with Kasabian for a bit when Tom left.

They did a couple of gigs in 2022 went to the Leeds one, saw their "last" gigs also in Leeds about 2010??

Saw them in the arena in Boro in front of a couple of hundred people after they released the third album.

Saw them at Newcastle Uni when they were on the cusp of greatness, saw a band there the same week, who were nowhere near as good as The Music - kings of Leon and I'm a massive fan of the early KOL albums.

Hard to believe they were kids when the first album came out.

Remember going to see New Order in 2002 and they were lined up as the support act but never played for some reason I still don’t know.

Replacement act was a DJ set by Arthur Baker

They had everything bar (with some exceptions) the tunes. Saw them at the Town Hall just after the first album came out and they were magic. The singer now plays in Kasabian & Mike Skinner's live band and is a pretty successful pop songwriter. The guitarist released an excellent solo album last year and is currently lobbying to fill The Smashing Pumpkins guitarist vacancy

They did have some good tunes, but I know what you mean, they weren’t exactly Beatles standard and their appeal was limited.

Sounded great in the Empire though.

Had Adam Nutter (guitarist) on the podcast I used to do...really lovely lad. Helped him start his own podcast. He's a gardener in Leeds when he's not doing his solo project and a few reunion gigs. Remember seeing them at The Cornerhouse and then the Crypt a few weeks later...top band in and around their debut album. America and record label bosses messed them up. Weren't the same after that.
