The North Stand at The Riverside

The west is the west etc. etc. it suits a purpose but the north is a significant stand in how it can impact the team. As it is, it's almost like a neutral stand. I'd focus on filling that stand with visuals... red and white, flags, scarves, banners. Cover every inch of the stand and make it a real visually intimidating home end. The sound will follow.

I don't dispute this, but it still feels quite full when you're in the middle of it.
I am right in the middle, and there are never many seats going in my block or the adjacent ones, then all you can see is the corners curling round, and they're usually well-populated. I take it the blocks before the corners are pretty empty?
Have to agree it always (these days) seems busy round me in block 22 and most of those have been there for years. And we don’t want a bloody drum.

The North Standers remember the days of excitement. The pre Man City esque football played now puts us oldies to sleep. We were brought up on proper football. Big centre forwards, corners, shots from outside the box, crunching tackles, one substitute. Oh, and goals. Now it is 50 passes forwards, sidewards and backwards across midfield then back to the goalie. The opposition with 10 men in their own box. The only excitement is when a team (normally us) tries to play out from the back and cocks it up and creates a chance for the opposition! The younguns have been brought up on this football. Us oldies get bored with it. How can you sing and get excited by another… pass?

north stand in full of moans and groans. its depressing being at that end of the stadium. i sit near the away fans in the east, its always pretty much full and up beat. having a laugh with away fans when the bigger followings come. i love it. sat in family zone once last season with sons friend and his dad. its was horrible. like i said all you could here were moaners.

Give it a decade or so when the South Stand lads have families and the youngsters who can't get seats together need some space to express their love for the Boro.

I moved from North to South (when it opened) then back to North to sit with the missus and family (just a bit more convenient).

I loved the South in the early days but got frustrated with it eventually. A number of people gravitate to the south for “The atmosphere” yet do nothing to contribute to the atmosphere themselves. Behind my old season ticket seat there was a Dad and his lads who done nothing but whine and complain. He’s chyte etc. They knew F all about footy, and the Dad was the worst. Even his own sons ended up telling him to shut up.

Obviously, a few years since I’ve been in the south and The RF and South Stand lot generally are a credit to the club and massively improve the atmosphere.

North stand is full of proper old school STH’s who’ve been there since opening (My father in law and family for example). Some of them aren’t as youthful as they were. That said, when there’s a genuinely good game or there’s an us vs. them mentality (crap referee for example) they do rise to the occasion now and then. They just need something to set them off.

I try to get involved with the South stand songs but I’m periodically left singing on my own and end up just shutting up! 🤣

It feels like the Twelth Man need to congregate into a more central area within the North stand (and probably need some more numbers too). The demographics are completely different though.

P.S. I’ve started staying for a pint in the North Stand bar after the game to let the crowds settle before my walk into town. Always a few decent tunes on and invariably end up bumping into a few mates or old faces. Always worth hanging back for! 👍

It might be oldies in the North Stand but that doesn't mean their can't be some singing and clapping. I was with some friends in bar and someone started the Rhythmic hand clapping and stamping to " We will rock you" anyone remember that from the old South Terrace seats at AP. Or the rhythmic hand clapping which would go up and down in speed and sound from the holgate. So many old skool songs out there which can be used by the North Stand and would give it an unique flavor.
What they are doing with the flags is a good idea , they just need to have a keep it up elsewhere, in how they congregate, or like the south stand organise special day in the North Stand for a few games through the season and try to get a special atmosphere on those days. Doing the latter may encourage it too happen more spontaneously through the season

I have always been North Stand and fully appreciate the great football Michael Carrick's teams play. We get behind the team and wear red unless it is cold lol. Then I wear a coat.
But JD and the twe12th man try hard to work on colour and atmosphere - afterall it is the twel12th man that has been behind the songs and banners at away grounds for years and years they try their hardest to bring it on home. They just need your support.

New song for the North Stand........

Boro pensioners we are here
Hay-ho hay-ho
Boro pensioners we are here...
Drink all your beer
And s**g all your women :giggle:

The north stand hasn't been the same since i gave up my season ticket for the 96/97 season. The people left have thin reedy voices like Shelley duval with asthma whispering to a kitten, whereas I have a loud booming manly voice like oliver Reid wrestling with Zeus in the nude. As a result many of the songs lose their impact and cease to be intimidating. It is no coincidence that we got relegated that year.

We live in England.. it’s always cold!

Time for some red coats?

The North Stand has no crack, no banter.. the banner displays look well funded but miss the mark.

Boring af
