To nunthorpe ….. biked there today having lifted my bike over about 5 stiles . I know it’s all fenced off and there was a right ding dong over getting over the railway line and then the fence went up a number of years ago….

Does anyone know if there is ever any plans to open it up ? Massive shame as so many people would use it from that area instead of the dangerous roads you have to take to get to pinchinthorpe

Yes there are plans to take some farmland from the Morton Carr level crossing alongside the railway line to link up to the old railway line branch to Guisborough without having to cross the line. I’m not sure how advanced but it has recently been in the ‘Nunthorpe News’. Hopefully it will happen quickly and as you say open a good safe off road cycle route between Nunthorpe and Guisborough.

They were talking about opening this up in 2016 before I moved to the US. Did you get accosted by the lady at the farm as you crossed the railway line?!

It's a dead duck mate, to Simon Clarkes annoyance Redcar & Cleveland Council refused it permission and refused to fund it.

Is that right? I only read it not long ago in the local news booklet thing that comes around every few months.

When did they refuse it?

A disgrace that it was ever closed - I say this as someone who has walked the dangerous road from Guisy back home to Nunthorpe numerous times with no alternative route and an overpriced bus every blue moon. Ernest Marples’ Britain.

What route did the old railway line take? Is it still there?
The old route is now a cycle way to Guisborough going through Pinchinthorpe. The only problem is that it is blanked off where it used to be linked to the rail line through Nunthorpe and so cyclists can only join the dots by illegally crossing barriers and fences to get over the line.

It’s a complete nightmare to be honest and knackering to boot in having to lift you’re bike over stile after stile just to avoid having the ride on the a174 or via great ayton roads

That brings back memories, Colin. Walked back from The Cross Keys on many a night. Funnily enough, don’t recollect it being dangerous 😉🍺🍺🍺
