The right to work from home

I have been working at full capacity at home since last March. I am happy to go back to the office at some point, but it's been agreed already that it'll be flexible. 3 Core days when whole team is in, and 2 days work from wherever you like, office home, etc etc.

That suits me. (y)

What do you think?

Changes to the law would "make it impossible for employers to insist on staff attending he workplace unless they show it is essential"

It's going to be a game changer if this goes through. Personally, I welcome this. I like being in the office but hate the commute. 3 hours everyday (15 hours a week, 60 hours a month) travelling on packed trains will not be missed. Obviously there will be times when it is required - Meetings etc but I can honestly say 95% of my time could be spent working from home. It's more relaxed and definitely more productive.

Working from Home
It's a win win for everyone really. Employers can reduce office space reduce insurance cover, get happier employers with more life balance Employers get 15 hours a week back, save a fortune in commute costs, can work more flexibly.

Won't work in every business or industry of course, but for the vast majority of office workers it'll be great. I know people complain about lack of social interaction, lack of after work drinks etc, but go in once every 2 or 4 weeks. Best of both worlds. What about damage to hospitality, transport and lunchtime food trade? Well we don't owe them a living, they'll have to diversify. Food can use Just Eat to deliver lunches and dinners, hospitality, I'd rather go for a pint with local friends than workmates in London, transport? Well we need to cut emissions anyway.

This is the silver lining from lockdown, a more balanced life for many of us in the future.

I think some companies will adopt this, other companies will be totally flexible, yet more will be WFH as the rule and office by exception. Some people will chose one or the other, but ultimately the idea of chose your own workplace will be the winner as experienced and talented people will gravitate to what suits them best. If you have young kids, you want to see them not the inside of a train carriage, if you've started to do some weekly classes after work, or other social events you will want to maintain that. Ultimately I think there will be more and more choose your own way of working.

I would also welcome a hybrid scheme, I do actually like to get up and go to work and miss the workplace chats, so a 2/3 day split would be ideal.
This is definitely where I am. I like the freedom and relaxation of WFH but I miss the social aspect of an office, and also the chance to randomly pick things up by bumping into someone that you would never have at home

If you know what kind of dog you want, try to make contact directly with a breeder instead of looking for a puppy for sale. Any reputable breeder is still charging the same price and wont be advertising in the usual places as people will just buy the puppy then sell it on for a higher price, plus you know these people will actually look after the puppy and not be doing it only for the money.
Yes - and I take the point others have made about rescue dogs.
For ‘dog’ in my initial post read ‘puppy’ - one of my friends has just got a Westie pup and has paid through the nose for her.
In any case won’t be making any commitment until I know what my future work arrangements are. Would be pointless if I go back to 5 days in the office (albeit unlikely)
