Very worrying. Plane en route from Athens to Vilnius in Lithuania ordered to land at Minsk in Belarus - apparently on the orders of the Belarus president to arrest a dissident Belarussian on board. Airline statement says Belarus air-traffic controllers told the pilots of a “potential security threat on board”. The crew were ordered “to divert to the nearest airport, Minsk” 100 miles east 'accompanied' by a MIG jet.. But Vilnius was only 60 miles north.......
The International Civil Aviation Organisation has described it as an "apparent forced landing" and warns it "could be in contravention of the Chicago Convention”.
