The Saudi Sportswashing continues

The PGA and World Tours are going to have to give in, and accept there is a new world order.

Other players will be looking at the money being given to Mickelson, Johnson, DeChambeau et al and more will like the look of it. The game will be fractured, those who have moved can still play in the majors (except the US PGA) and earn 5 times the money - why would you not do it?

It looks like its achieved unstoppable momentum.

Maybe you have a bit of moral fibre.

Plus the title of your thread went some way to answer your question.
My point is you can‘t stop it. The financial rewards to begin with, then the competitive instinct to compete against the best - the fragmentation now will ultimately lead toward all the tours living alongside each other, it’s inevitable.

Big money makes even the most loyal rethink their business plans. The likes of EPL, F1, Boxing and a few other sports have shifted their allegiance of late and now golf — we shouldn’t be too surprised.

It was always going to happen. Many were/are just waiting for a few big names to join, and know that DJ and Bryson have more will follow. The money is obscene, but some have earned far more by signing up and before they’ve hit a ball than they have or will on the PGA.

I love golf, but am glad it’s not being shown on U.K. TV, although feels like it’s only a matter of time before someone snaps it up.

YouTube streaming atm, only a matter of time before Sky buy the rights…

It was always going to happen in golf. Particularly greedy bunch some of them. Their personal wealth takes precedent over any moral considerations. Some of their reactions to question in the pre tournament conferences was telling.

Must admit, I really didn’t like Poulter‘s and Westwood’s demeanours during their press conference. I’ve met Westwood a few times and he’s always been a bit of a joker, but they didn’t come across well.

Theyre not alone though, and there’s other sports and individuals who are in a similar boat who don’t appear to be getting as much scrutiny, namely F1 and boxing. Not to mention Newcastle‘s staff and players.

I watched a bit of it yesterday on YT. Seemed to be jumping around all over the place. Little context to what was going on, but I suppose a proper broadcaster could fix that problem.

Shotgun starts are a bit weird , but I gather that the final round is regular format.

Going to be interesting to watch if the likes of DJ and BAD start getting pumped by relative 'nobodies' and has beens. Won't be good for their mindset. And neither would being top 3 week in, week out. Big Phil looks like he is on the rocks now anyways, and he will probably ship off to the masters or a casino once he has refilled his bucket. They might need to find a different level of performance to step back onto a track with the likes of JT & Co.

On the morality side, money talks and many people are fickle when it comes calling.

Players looked and sounded like fools at the presser. What is the point of a p.c. if you cannot answer, questions without getting all @rsy about it. Poults and Westy have gone right down in my estimation. Pretty sure you won't see them in next R Cup, but time is probably right for them to be retired in any case.

I really don't get this level of vitriol directed at Saudi Arabia.
Yes there are questions about Khashoggi, and yes they have capital punishment and certain sections of society are marginalised, but that is the case in many other countries.
They are on a path to modernisation which will take time and they should be commended for that.

The Amnesty International Report doesn’t make for good reading. I definitely “get” the vitriol directed their way.

As I said, there are many countries as bad or worse, and they are on a modernisation path
