The fact the ref apologised at half time says it all. How he doesn't see that foul in real-time is poor refereeing.
The thing is, he didn't win the ball as the ball went off far quicker than the tackle, and then even if he did win it (which he didn't), then his foot lifted up and tripped Jones anyway, so it's a foul at first, or a foul later, couldn't be anything else.

I just don't get how the ref thought their player could get the ball to where he did, without committing a foul, it's impossible from the angle he came in at. He may think he got the ball and kicked it onto jones, but then he still tripped him anyway (and Jones is technically in possession).

Fair enough him saying he got it wrong, but not sure how he got that decision in the first place, if there's any doubt just call it a foul, and there's no real harm either way.
