This Crooks transfer

Each final position in the league brings you extra revenue, so getting say 1 million for Crooks now may end up costing us more at the end of the season the further down the league we drop.
whoah whoah whoah. In our league there is no merit payments for league position on final day. What's going on here? This is not new . This has been the way in the EFL for a very long time . People shouldn't be under this impression

Put yourself in Carrick and Scott’s position.

You have a good bloke and honest professional being offered a fantastic opportunity. Crooks is 30 and has a chance to live and work in America. That chance will likely not be there in July.

Showing some understanding and care to that is not a bad thing.
Nobody (not many anyway) wishes to deny Crooks this opportunity.
But the club will have known about the interest in January and the potential that Crooks would depart after the transfer window had closed.
If we tried to replace him or allocate the funds for a loan then we didn't achieve it which is a serious failure.

Fair enough but as others have said the need to encourage support for next season is important and we shouldn’t look as though we’ve packed up for the season ,especially when renewals will be dropping on our doormats very soon .

Have you heard the 12th Man podcast? In it, Scott says the Rogers transfer came from nowhere. The exact same is likely with Crooks.

It kind of makes nonsense of the holding on to Paddy. We sell Crooks and Rodgers because we want to get the best price maybe, while we know that we’ll have a drop off in goals and assists. Meanwhile Paddy could have easily been sold off and replaced during the summer window which doesn’t make sense to me. What it does tell me is that MC hasn’t got a say on the transfer policy or the players he wants to keep or leave.

I’m sure the fans wil vote with their feet and we’ll see a half empty stadium very shortly. Crazy decisions by the executives will have consequences. Fans are not stupid.

Despite some one in here saying that he was leaving in early Jan yes nowhere
What’s to say there was no firm move until recently? Perhaps the agent had word Salt Lake were interested, but also interest in a few others. Boro perhaps got Azaz thinking Crooks might move on.

Crooks had a choice. Stay in England and in a couple of years have the choice of joining fairly average teams. Or go to America now at his peak and experience another lifestyle, and one that will really benefit him and his family. It’s a no brainer.

Yes I'd heard about the sudden interest in Rogers. Something that Emery does quite often apparently. However there were rumours about Crooks at the beginning of January. I think it was @Quicksilvera who mentioned the rumours for the first time on this forum.

Personally I’m glad we haven’t panic buyed this window particularly given playoffs are massively unlikely.

Hopefully Scott and co have a plan for the Summer. If that plan is not targeting promotion by backing the manager accordingly then don’t expect Carrick to be around for much longer.

They had a plan for last summer, it hasn’t worked.

Here's what I think
US MLS soccer don't really poach or come in with bids for UK players out of the blue, or before their natural career end
Almost 90pc of the time it comes from a players agent being allowed to open up the phone lines in the US market once its established the player is likely to be available

Crooks has played a bit part role for 12 months now as there is no natural start position,
I think once we signed Azaz the club , starting with Carrick, approached Crooks and said look there is no long term future for you here , due to age and startinf potential , so if you and your agent want 6 months in exploring your next opportunity then its the best we can do as the club have enjoyed and benefitted from your commitment. Also if you want to remain here and play from the bench we are Ok with that.
That's it. Crooksy obv doesn't fancy Scottish footy or champs at a lower club so what else is there? His agent touts him around the US mkt at exactly the right time and hey presto they have an interested party. Boro are Oka s it generates , what guess 1.5m income. Anyway it still needs to complete so let's see

Other posters have said he was bought as Rogers replacement.
Not according to Kieran Scott he wasn't.

I get the Crooks deal, aside from how attractive it is for him personally, it's getting money in that we likely wouldn't have got in the summer.

If we're being honest we know that we aren't a top 6 team this season and it makes more sense to keep our powder dry for the summer.

A beloved bit-part player (who probably wasn't in the long term plans) gets an opportunity to make a move that would be great not only for his career, but for his family too. Said player (and current club) will get more money from this deal than would be likely in the summer (or in 12 months' time) and the sale comes at a time when thoughts are already turning from a promotion push to planning for next season.

Don't see what all the fuss is about tbh. I wish Crooksy all the best and look forward to watching him at Soldier Field if RSL play Chicago Fire on the road.
