The run started when we beat Sunderland 3-2, followed by Carlisle 4-1 both at AP, then drawing at Newcastle to top the group & go in to the knock out stage
1st off Aberdeen in the quarter finals over two legs, winning 2-0 at AP & 5-2 at Aberdeen
Up next & again over two legs, the semi final over two legs v Mansfield, the game was probably over in the 1st leg when winning 3-0 at AP, Boro went to Mansfield & won 2-0 & in to the 1st cup final of my lifetime

After winning the 1st leg 1-0 at Ayresome Park, courtecy of an OG, when Strong deflected a Davey Armstrongs aimed for the head oif the Fulham defender, who header past his own keeper at the holgate end in to the back of the net, gooooaaaaaallll, the holgate went crazy
We travelled to Craven Cottage, putting in a sterling performance drawing 0-0 to win the Anglo Scottish Cup 1-0 over two legs & winning a trophy, doesnt that sound great

Saw all the games home and away in the Anglo Scottish Cup that season. Remember the coach journey to Aberdoom being a nightmare stopping numerous times and taking a lifetime to get there. If I remember correctly we set off at 6:00am and didnt get to Aberdoom until 6:00pm. Sat next to Spike's sister on the coach journey. I think that was the first all seater stadium I had been to.

Excellent asred, (y)

debatable if the Anglo Scottish cup was major. I cant remember how you qualified for it. I think the League cup was our first major honour IMHO

Sorry Erimus I know you like to reminisce about this win however. Our first major trophy was won on

27th April 1895

Sorry cardiff, I did include it in the title if you care to read it properly

Went to all the AP matches - not sure I'm remembering the right match but I think we made hard work of the final first leg. I was in the Holgate & those black and white pics bring it all back. That John Hickton bloke was a handsome fella... :)

Correct. I love those black and white photos, particularly the first one.

Just before my time. Did we see it as a big deal? My old fella was always very dismissive of it!
We were regularly pilloried in the press for being boring (Tiresome Park, one hack referred to) so winning a trophy without actually scoring was just more ammo.

Some do, sone dont

I certainly do, I have all the match badges with the team strips showing, 3 match tickets, teamsheets, all the programmes, Phil Boersmas winning tankard
I just wish i had the evening gazette back page headlines
One of the highlights of AP for me & I was in the holgate with my late brother that night, another nice memory

I got my photo taken in Binns with Stuey Boam and the trophy. Queued for ages for the privilege.
I'm afraid I can't class it as a major trophy. It was only significant to us because we'd won nowt else. If we'd won the fa cup 7 months earlier, I doubt it would even be mentioned.
Forest won it the next season. I wonder if they class it as a major trophy.

That is correct, but not correct with the thread mind
Maybe but it is still way more important an achievement. It was a national competition in which many of the top clubs of the day entered. It truly was a proud day for Middlesbrough that win at Headingly Stadium. We can truly offer that fact out today and any football fans will nod in agreement. Tell them we won the Anglo Scottish Cup and it will be met with a bemused smile. Except from Burnley fans who don't count their Anglo Scottish Cup win as a major trophy.

As you say its all about opinions.

Some weird definitions of major trophies going on in this thread. League championship, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA cup and European Cup are major trophies. Anything else isn’t.
