When scoring our 3rd goal at home to Newcastle, David Mills scored our 1st to put us one up, Glenn Keeley scored one of the best OG I'd seen at Ayresome Park to put us 2-1 in front, Willie scored what should have been the winning goal with, sadly, his final Boro goal & his 21st Boro career goal
Sadly with 90 seconds on the clock remaining & game almost over as we very rarely conceded at home that season, never mind scoring two
I was in the Holgate with my dad & with time running out he said, right son let's get out before the rush, as we got to the bottom of the Holgate steps & walking onto boot boy alley a fan with a radio shouted 'it's 3 all', couldn't believe it, thought he was kidding
The late, great WM our best ever defender, IMHO, played 343 games between 1968 & 1976
He scored his 1st goal, on his full debut a header at the holgate end in a 3-2 loss to Bury, our only home defeat of the season
A true legend
Big Jacks team that day v Newcastle, I woukd think a few crates of milk would have been thrown across the room after that game

Graeme Souness
Stuey Boam

Bobby Murdoch

Phil Boersma - 1st game wearing No9
