This Lindsay Hoyle business

Whilst you might not think that, plenty of people have posted to suggest that Hoyle was only trying to help Sunak save face. Surely this intervention from Abbott puts that firmly back in the long grass and again, leads to the conclusion that it was Starmer he was aiding?

The only thing stopping him from calling Abbot was fear. Hoyle is a dead speaker walking.

No. I'm saying that a bunch of Newcastle supporters were happy to turn a blind-eye to reports of human-rights abuses, and, I'm saying that a bunch of Labour supporters are happy to turn a blind-eye to reports of racial-abuses.

Not all Newcastle supporters and not all Labour supporters.
There are bunches of Labour supporters happy to turn a blind-eye to reports of many forms of abuse, islamophobia and antisemitism included.

And for the record, the definition of centrist is not particulaly controversial so I'm not quite sure why you get so upset over it.

I wasn't the one getting upset.

I think centrism, as per your definition, is more closely aligned to traditional (UK) Liberal ideals. Socially aware but more economically aligned with the Tories.

Labour should be a party of the left with strong ties to the unions and pushing for an economy that centres the majority and returns control of natural monopolies and critical infrastructure to the state.

Starmer's Labour is nowhere near the economic left and has made plenty of noises that push it to the right socially (NHS, social-care etc.). It isn't a centre-left party, which is why centrists feel comfortable with it. The problem is that plenty on the centre-right and beyond also feel comfortable with it which is why people on the left don't feel quite so supportive.

Haha me too....I asked for a simple explanation and here we are with my longest ever thread and still don't understand most of it.....COUNCIL TERMS you smarter than me ar$e$ 🤣🤣
Sorry Legz. Hope you're feeling better!

It's difficult to explain simply because there's far too much going on that requires reading between the lines.

And then the way you interpret the between-the-lines stuff depends very much on your political position.

It's complicated...

Not my definition, I just Googled it.
And your interpretation of the definition is yours, not mine.

The most obvious reason she wasn't called was because Hoyle would have had to depart from the recognised protocol and given the pantomime caused by his decision to do so over the Palestinian vote, I can understand why he didn't here.

The right thing to do would be to call her and depart from the protocol, but I can also understand why he chose not to.

That's not quite right JI. From my post #340 on this thread 👇

Worth remembering that the convention with PMQs is that MPs not on the order paper can try to catch the speakers eye, and the speaker can choose to call on them, and PMQs has overran the 30 minutes many times. So Hoyle certainly could have let Abbott speak without breaking any conventions.

I suppose its worth saying Hoyle wasn't breaking any conventions not letting Abbott speak either.

Damn, completely forgot about that Legz. Don't even know where to begin with converting it all now...

Basically Hoyles a bit like when someone says their husband can't do washing up or hoovering or whatever and its hard to say if the husbands just pretending to be incompetent to get out of doing any work because they do seem genuinely dopey enough to be that useless.

Fair enough

So have I got this right?
Centrist isn't an insult.
Lessofthelip doesn't regard it as an insult.
Scrote didn't use it as an insult.
Less of the lip is proud to be a centrist.
Scrote isn't a hypocrite after all.

I don't think - feel that Scrote is a hypocrite in any shape or form. I'm a centrist, but I would imagine Scrote and yourself have centrist views in a good part of your way of life outlook and day to day living.
