Thoughts of a frontline Dr. Re covid

Personally I found this quite hard to read but necessary reading.
It's not a cheerful article but I thought I would post it.
Really made me think about how just hard this last year just must have been for all the staff in hospitals across the globe.

Holy hell, that brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.

The people on the frontline deserve the highest of accolades for their care and willingness to put themselves through this time after time. The strain on their own mental and physical health must be catastrophic.

They should be rewarded with a huge bonus, each and every one.

But I suspect they will have to make do with another round of clapping from the charlatans in power.

This is a profession that does this day in day out before covid, there is never any financial reward big enough for saving a human life . Although preventing the clap on a Thursday or any other day would be good

I felt the same way. Really quite powerful, the stress of all this must be intense. Think about it, the first few months we really had no idea how to deal with it and on top of that was the daily fear of catching it oneself. Plus this person is having to make several life or death decisions on a daily basis with someone they are face-to-face with ...

It needs courage to face that sort of working environment day after day and courage is not an infinite resource, without a break it gets used up. I hope front line workers mental health is being closely monitored. Throughout all this I haven't been personally worried as I am in good health (the human condition 'it won't happen to me') but when you look at the ages of the patients he mentions the reality is that this is Russian roulette, no one can be sure how the illness might impact them.

Below is a 'snip' of the Twitter 'bio' of a holiday cottage owner (and anti-lockdowner) on the North York Moors . Stuff in their feed is even worse. How frontline medics must feel when confronted with this sort of behaviour is unimaginable. (Mind you a useful reminder of why I deleted my Twitter account in 2019, it's a dangerous place)
