Thunder flies

Anyone else got a plague of these at the moment?
Worst I’ve even seen it today!

I went for a run along the cliffs between Saltburn and Skinningrove on Tuesday evening and there was a section of maybe 400 metres just after the Charm Bracelet that was swarming with them.. I came out the otherside of it absolutely littered in them from head to toe!

The vast majority of the cliff top was fine, just that one section was full of the little buggers!

Seemed to ease off about 7:30, but possibly because the entire worlds’s population are on my kitchen ceiling

They're a b***r when you're cycling. I've eaten loads of them over the years. All extra protein I suppose.

Thunderbugs or thunderflies are no more than 2mm long usually but in big numbers, and tend to be in areas where there are crops. They appear in hot / muggy weather but have very short lifetimes as I understand it - a single day before perishing.
They get everywhere though including behind TV screens and monitors
