Tinnitus

I have constant ringing in my ears exactly the same as after you've been to a loud concert. Although I've seen loads of live music over the years, it isn't to blame. My tinnitus started as a result of a virus about 15 years ago.
I have the same; it's the bane of my life. It started around 4 years ago, I think connected to a lot of drilling I did in a house with fantastically hard bricks. My hearing is fine but I have to listen to the sound of rain on Alexa to get to sleep as it helps focuses my mind away from the tinnitus.

The saddest thing is not being able to just sit in the garden, say, and listen to the breeze and the birdsong. The tinnitus ruins it.

I’ve learnt to live with it - i have a constant high pitched ringing noise in my ears and it never ever stops. In fact i can’t remember what silence actually feels like, it’s been that long. It is what it is !

Me too, I've learned to ignore it except when there is absolutely no background noise, then it's very obvious. It does mean that I struggle to hear very quiet sounds, although age related hearing loss doesn't help.

I've struggled with it for years. I Just live with it now. It's down to the live/loud music over the years. I've been playing drums in bands since about 1990. On days I'm tired or have a headache it's much worse. And it got a lot worse after I had covid last year.

A friend of mine e had a sudden onset after a band rehearsal, really badly and it affects him in a pretty bad way.

He threw himself into research and how to relieve symptoms. As we all know, there is no cure.

Keep your eyes on this site for launch of a new product next year to help with tinnitus symptoms. I trailed the prototype and can honestly say it helped me. I have no financial interest in this whatsoever, I just believe he's on to something with this device. Its been granted class 1 medical status.

Wow I appreciate peoples honestly. It drives me insane. Stops my sleep and laid in bed listening to the Armada audiobook with headphones, yet again for the 1000th time as I can just zone out to It.

I get it, especially when tired or stressed. Luckily its fairly fleeting and doesn't typically stick around longer than 10/20 minutes,
This is interesting - I am exactly the same but haven't found much online about it being associated with tiredness so thought it was just me. Do you get it when first waking up, too?

I have a permanent ring / whistle in my left ear which increases and decreases randomly, and a lesser one in my right; too many loud gigs, especially in the seventies when everyone was competing to be the loudest with the dirtiest amplification. With the modern tendency of films to be LOUD in the surround and quiet in the dialogue, I find myself using subtitles more.

I did have them syringed about a year ago, and that did really help for a while, but it never lasts long. £30 an ear at the local clinic, I think they're in the Rainbow Centre now.

Drums will do that. Hitting a standard metal 14”x 5”snare with intent produces about 95dB apparently. Exposure max should be limited to 10-15 minutes a day without protection.
Cymbals also are good at stripping out your high frequencies.
Guitars can be a problem. Amps are sometimes elevated off the floor…drummers are seated. If you’re not running monitors and just getting raw speaker…ouch!
If guitarists had their ears behind their knees they would understand.🤣

100% accurate. I started wearing bespoke ear protection several years ago when I play and still do. They have literally saved my hearing. I live with the affects of several years playing without them though.

My right ear is slightly worse than my left as I often turn my head to the left where my vocal mic is when I'm doing some backing vocals. The high frequency is pretty non-existent in my right ear.

For example, when I'm abroad and you can hear crickets chirping. if i'm on the pillow facing right with my left ear exposed I can hear them. if I sleep on my left side with my right ear exposed with the left on the pillow, I can't hear the crickets chirping away. it's very weird!

I’m sure you had that painful moment early on when suddenly an uncomfortable, almost shrieking high pitch noise in the internal ear, then it’s gone.
That’s your ear saying goodbye to that particular frequency, I was told
My mate stopped going to record mix downs..because like you so much of his top end had gone.
His right ear also.

I’ve had it for a couple of years now and it totally rocked me when I first got it. I have a high pitch ringing constantly in both ears which I am pretty use to. It does annoy me from time to time but it’s ok. I also occasionally get a sort of drumming sound in my left ear. Sounds and feels like my ear drum is sort of pulsing. When this gets bad I stick some tissue paper in there which helps.

I think stress, lack of sleep, coffee/stimulants, and loud noises all contribute to the levels of my tinnitus. What caused it? I’d say all the punk and hardcore shows I went to, having headphones in full blast and working in the construction industry would definitely not have helped.

Had it since I was about 16 so over 30 years . Used to really bother me when I went out even to the cinema would come back ringing load for about a day . Both ears and different frequencies or humming or thumping etc. you do learn to live with it but when you focus on it , makes it much worse . Earplugs in clubs were a godsend even though I used to ram them in as far as I could to avoid embarrassment . Worst thing for me is when it changes pitch for minutes or few days and it’s aggravated by the tv or other noises . That’s when I really hate it
