Todays ref

I must admit. Whislt I sat there and thought ” by god this is awful”

I was somewhat cheered by the fact that the highly paid official wasn’t completely inept.

Hurrah for Mr Official

Refs must love games like this where one team just serves the game up to the opponents, because they know they would have to give out half a dozen red cards and bad penalty shouts to even warrant a mention from the losing team manager.

Even though I'm glad we didn't have to sit through anymore not sure there should only have been 5 mins added on at the end. Their players spent most of the second half taking turns to sit on the floor

If anything, I thought the ref favoured us. Some crazy decisions against Sorinola in particular, and there was no need to book the lad who caught the ball which was going out.

Come on now. What can the ref do apart from book him for deliberate hand ball???

In this case there was absolutely no intention to gain an advantage from it, so why the booking?

ALL handballs given, by their definition, are deliberate. Is any handball an automatic booking? If so, I stand corrected.

what was going through his mind is immaterial. He was in play. Deliberately hand balled it. Bizarrely. To no advantage to himself. But he still did it. He didn’t protest.

Handball is cautionable if:

A player:
  • handles the ball to interfere with or stop a promising attack
  • handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (whether or not the attempt is successful) or in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal

Good point. I’d have sent him
Off

I agree, but that is the rule, a deliberate handball is a booking. I guess you could argue it was accidental as he thought the ball had already gone out. If a keeper accidentally handles the ball, thinking he is inside his box, when he is outside, same yellow card is given.

It's a rule that should allow refs discretion.

[EDIT] Apparently I am talking b***ks

Every need as that’s what they are told to do. There was a manager booked last week for kicking the ball when still in play. Forgot who it was.
