It was alright when it had Clarkson, May & Hammond.. but it wasn't amazing or anything. They stumbled on an entertaining formula of three guys dikcing around basically. Then they had Chris Evans and Joey from friends.. which was utter gash.. big names but nothing else. Then The latest crop of no likely no likely novelty tie 'bants' is utter todd.. flogging a dead horse. Bland light entertainment bottom feeders.

Why not just make it good?

Leather jacket fella, Paisley shirt bloke and t-shirt guy.. stick to the formula.

Plus Smalltown's EV safari challenge. Stick slebs in the middle of nowhere with a Tesla and a couple of AA batteries to get home.

To be fair t-shirt guy above can get a decent tune out of just about anything with an engine in it. However a stint on top gear might finally do him in cos he’s a mentalist.

I used to work on Top gear in the days that, as us old lags like to say, it was a car/motoring programme.
The peak period was when they di the big specials like Bolivia, though they really did sail close to the wind on so many levels with BBC rules and regs.... in particular the BBCs rules about misleading the audience and on the health and safety/risk assessment front.

I think that they got used to operating outside of the usual rigorous BBC standards (honestly, some of the BBC's safety protocols would make you weep ... so I don't blame them).

It is, frankly, incredible that the show survived the Hammond crash ... the first one, never mind the second.

It had its day. Gone Fishing is better.

It needs a proper reboot. Take it back to the start when it was a proper motoring show with the likes of Raymond Baxter and a posh woman reviewing the new Allegro while driving down a country lane.

This rings true to what I have heard about the current predicament that the Beeb find themselves in. I know one of Fred's mates and there is more to this than just the injuries that he sustained, but that is all I can / should say.

I'm warming to this now! Range anxiety with ST: Each week ST demos a different EV. Fully charged at manufacturer's claimed range from his home. No recharging. We take bets on where he finishes up.
Better still, set him off in the centre of various brexit supporting communities with said vehicles to first find somewhere to re-charge these various EV’s and see where it all ends up.

All about the chemistry and talent of the presenters to be honest. Clarkson, Hammond and May of 10-15 years ago could present an hour long show about breakfast cereal, it would still be absolutely fantastic.

Most successful light entertainment show ever, worldwide?

I was still enjoying it when Clarkson was fired, rightly so. It was cringing at times but that was also funny, in a childish way. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
