Tory Boy - Movie

Only watched Tory Boy, a movie by John Walsh recently. Although I despise the Tories, this is quite an eye opener into the 2010 election of the MP for Middlesbrough, and in particular the antics of Sir Stuart Bell. The film was banned by Sir Stuart, and if you watch the movie you will see why. It is currently on Amazon.
I enjoyed it immensely 👍

How come Sir Stuart had the power to ban a movie?

That’s a reference to his business in Paris, answer the question abou banning and can you explain what the chuff your point is?

Ah yeah, I think I remember that now. I was with the Lib Dems and helped re-write Chris Foote-Wood's campaign material (he was awful, pretty much a poor man's Stuart Bell) during the end of process I put myself forward to be the next Lib Dem candidate, after a meeting in the Yellow Rose with CFW and others wanting to get into bed with the Conservative party and the subsequent coalition I jacked it in.

as disillusioned as I was with the Stuart Bell & Labour Party at the time and despite campaigning for the Lib Dems.. I ended up voting Labour.

I remember the local hustings being an absolute shambles, Barry Coppinger stood in for Stuart Bell, Independent candidate Joan McTigue had a meltdown about BOLLARDS, CFW was ineffective and out of touch out of all of them John Walsh came out looking the best and all he talked about was maybe having a film festival in the Boro. Shocking, disgraceful.. and very much a sign of things to come.

Osboro - I've copied and pasted this for you. It is all hear say and reading between the lines and nothing to prove that Bell or the Labour council banned the film.

Despite months of negotiations and assurances that the event would be fine to go ahead, late one Friday evening came word that it had to be cancelled.

This is a shame for the students who had a unique opportunity to hold me to account and put my film and story of the last election to the test with the Q&A to follow.

The reason given was that my appearance might breach the Union’s External Speakers Guidance compliance notes. This was rather surprising, as the film has been shown to schools, colleges and Universities, most recently at Colfes Secondary School in South London last month when I attended for a Q&A with politics students. Furthermore, the Q&A was to be refereed to keep it non-partisan.

Sad, then, that only Middlesbrough students are being denied this opportunity when the film centres on their town, whilst other students have not been shut out.

The University and Student Union later claimed that the film had not been finally agreed and no date time, or venue was set. This was odd as they produced a poster with a date of the 28th April, a time of 6pm and a location in the University!

One can almost feel the dead hand of a Labour Council PR Unit clumsily shutting down the event, with a predictable media backlash, from the local paper, The Gazette, at least.

I wonder what influence the Labour Council and the ghost of Sir Stuart Bell, whose disgraceful conduct as a constituency MP I revealed in my film, wield in the town. They are still reeling from the Gazette going ‘rogue’ with my expose of Bell on their front page, attacking him in the weeks and months that followed.

`Spoke to Walsh a couple of times, notably when Teesside Uni's Students Union banned it from being played when he had an event planned in the run up to the 2015 GE. I recall them denying he ever had it planned even though they had mocked up a poster for the event.
