Toyota close to mass production of solid state car batteries.

Hasn't been a thread about EV's for at least 37 minutes, so I thought I'd share.

Toyota, who have notably held back from their EV production, have developed a reliable mass market solid state battery apparently.

It will be a game changer for sure, expect 1k ranges and 10 minute charging times.

I was at an industry only EV conference last year where Toyota stated their long term aim was a mix of hydrogen ICE for larger and heavier vehicles needing extended range, and hydrogen fuel cells (and smaller capacity more efficient solid state batteries) for everything else.

The cost per Kwh per Km of batteries isnt going to be viable for mass production anytime soon, like 10 years plus.

sorry to disappoint all the EV fan boys, but Hydrogen is the future. FACT.

Toyota is so far behind on EVs they could be saying this as a ploy to get people to hold off buying competitors EVs until they can catch up.

Hydrogen ICE is a ridiculous idea. Never going to be viable.

Can’t see it taking off. If I haven’t got range to get to instanbul and back it’s not worth the trouble

Yeah that makes no sense

I’m convinced no one who is pro hydrogen has really thought about it and compared it to EV. They seem to fall into two camps: O+G companies and fans who need a fuel that can be commoditised and people who are scared/don’t understand how you refuel EV and think hydrogen is better because it’s the same as their ICE to refuel (which it isn’t)

Hilux

A lot of work has gone into the hydrogen Hilux down here at Burnaston. Had a look at one of the prototypes last week and the stats are impressive. There have been a few "corporate" presentation with various big wigs having a look over the last few weeks.
