Trips to Vegas

Looking to take the wife for her birthday in Jan/Feb. Any suggestions on where/when to book to get the best deals? Or is it all much of a muchness?

TIA 👍🏻

Be aware that vegas in off season is different to vegas in peak season as somethings close down early or are shut altogether in the down time. So check that what options you’d like are still available when you go.

As in the winter for instance vegas turns from tourism to conventions and the hotels switch accordingly.

But enjoy it’s a great town and I’d love to go back.

I got an unbelievable deal a few years back in the Virgin Holidays sale. Unhelpful really as I can’t remember when that actually was but keep an eye out. Expedia ok and cheaper if you don’t mind flying indirect.

What hotel you thinking of staying at?

We've been before mate and got a great deal with Virgin in the sale like you. I've got my eye on that but wanted to be aware of any other options.

We usually don't like to stay any further down the strip than Paris, with Flamingo and Harrah's being ideal

Cosmo is great. Not many bad hotels.

BA sometimes have good deals, meals thrown in etc, ncl - lhr - vegas flights. Shame logan air to heathrow is going to be finished by then. Code share made it pretty good option.

Stay at one of the big hotels - ballagio is nice. I don’t think they are so much more expensive than anywhere else. You will likely do a lot of walking anyway between hotels so for me there’s no real saving in booking away from the main strip in a cheaper place(which is what I did the first time I went)

Try and get to the Grand Canyon - the day trips invoke some driving and it can be a long day, the alternative is helicopter but that’s not for everyone.

See a show normally some famous acts there doing residency’s.

There’s so much to do without the gambling side of things.

There’s a lot of shooting gallery’s if you fancy firing some guns.

The big date to miss is the Consumer Electronics Show which is about Jan 5 to Jan 9, but there are tens of thousands arriving sooner and staying later for set up and tear down. That's the biggest show and a must to avoid because restaurants and shows are booked out.

There are plenty of other conventions too but no others that swamp the place like CES. Hotel rates vary enormously depending on what is going on and when the rates are low you can get breakfast and parking for free or very little. When rates are high you'll be paying for everything.

The best advice I can give is don't set your heart on any particular date. Two weeks sooner or two weeks later and you might find much cheaper hotel rates and easy restaurant reservations.

The other thing to mention is that a few days in LV is enough for most people. Those fruit machines clanking away 24x7 do grind you down so consider an escape to LA where the weather in Jan/Feb is great.
