Two government clowns...

They are saying it is a prediction of what could happen if certain individuals continue to be selfish and do their own thing. They can’t say it will happen as they can’t control our thoughts and actions fully. They are giving stark, responsible advice for people to respond appropriately to. However, amongst the great British public I expect around 66% will behave responsibly another 15% will mostly behave responsibly but occasionally be selfish about something they do and the rest will do as they please until caught out or a full lockdown occurs again and businesses are shut down (just my thoughts, not a prediction).

This exercise in showing a few slides was, IMHO, simply laying the groundwork for Boris Johnson to declare a short-term full lockdown.

Yep, that's how it came across to me, just setting the scene for Johnson to announce the so-called mini lockdown tomorrow

I didn't feel I got much from that briefing that wasn't already available, it seemed to be telling us what we already know

We may already know, but it clearly needs drumming back into people's heads again. It was a pretty clear warning of what may happen if people don't start being responsible.

I went for a walk today to my Doctor's surgery and was shocked at how the social distancing has all but collapsed. In shops too, people right up your backside, some without masks, again!

Also found that kids on their way to school were the ones who DID distance. Have to say that the older generation just seem oblivious.

Looking at those slides it's the 20 - 29 age group showing the steepest rise in infections over the last 6 to 7 weeks.

loads in JD sports yesterday without masks. probably outnumbered the people with masks. 1st time i have seen that to be honest. near 99% in asda later in the day with masks on

I agree that this information should be presented to us regularly in a clear and concise manner which I thought was the case today

However, the people who are being irresponsible are likely to be the same people who dont make any effort to watch today's briefing, so in a sense, they're preaching to the converted. The warning that the remainder need to hear and to heed, will not reach those acting irresponsibly. I fear that is where this mini lockdown will come in. It appears the only way to hammer home the message is to hammer it into people's lifestyles; unless it makes a big impact, the message gets ignored

I fully appreciate that the majority of us are following the rules and guidelines, we can do no more, but in society we can only go as fast as the slowest person. We need those who are acting irresponsibly at the back to basically get their shĂt together so the whole of society can move forward, at pace, to get into a manageable, controllable position with regard to C19

The lockdown game is over and as reality bites some people have reverted to type, which is do as they please rather than as they should, they use the lack of clarity of some guidelines, non-league football matches on Saturday, for example, had up to 300 fans in areas of local lockdown and dozens of fans travelling across the North on coaches to attend games, for those inclined to argue how is that ok when I can’t visit my parents garden to have a ten minute socially distanced natter ? There seems to be a lack of logical narrative to what is and isn’t allowed, and more pertinently the reasoning behind it.

Agree with most of that, but I am sure the message WILL get to those that cause the problems and ultimately then prolong our misery. The people that flout the guidance have family and friends that will make it known, they will see it on social media, ignorance of the rules is virtually impossible. They will always have a lie ready (sorry excuse) if they are questioned or get told off, or offer up some reason why the law is wrong or does not apply to them. I read about a man in London who was assaulted on a bus. His crime was moving to another seat away from an unmasked passenger who was not socially distancing. The vast majority respect the rules, unfortunately, those that don’t are a significant minority.

That said, the Government can’t be excused or let off the hook here and are very much responsible for why we as a nation are failing to date. They have not been providing clear concise guidance backed up with tough measures to deal with the flouters. Their failure to deliver on test track and trace is frankly a disgrace. They do not seem to learn the lessons from countries who have been more successful at dealing with the virus, although population behaviours are clearly a factor, no doubt.

Oh look. Let’s blame all the young ones again. Unbelievable.

To be fair those in their 20’s were the biggest age group i think, that does not mean all in that age group are the cause or irresponsible, lots of good people in all age groups block21. Lots of people in all age groups flouting the rules too, the younger age group are more likely to go out and about in pubs and restaurants, socialise in groups and think they are invincible. I certainly did when i was in my 20’s.

Thankfully I never had this virus to stop my fun. It is harder on the younger folk especially as they are less likely to be seriously affected. However, thats where this virus is very clever it allows them to have fun, not be really affected, but host the virus to harm others by default. The only way we will ever get back to normality is by all of us practising self restraint, behaving responsibly until a vaccine is available. That task does hurt the younger folks lives the most, but failure to do so harms the older and more vulnerable permanently.

I hope you're correct and the message does get through. If it doesn't, we'll all suffer prolonged restrictions. Maybe I've become too cynical and/or negative about how some in society behave

If only we could impose enforceable restrictions on the hard of thinking while the rest of us go about our business in a responsible manner
