Maybe should have been kept as an option? At least he seems to kmnow where the onion bag is, unlike Sporar + Connelly.. Could bully defenders, needed that upfront tonight.

Indeed. Remember his performance at Craven Cottage against the runaway champions of this league. Offers a different option, breaks the play up. Wouldn't have been completely powderpuff like the options tonight.

To me getting rid of him to replace him with other clubs youngsters is nothing but footballing arrogance.

I get it that he's not a Wilder player and doesnt fit the system, but today, when you're battling a team like Sheff Utd who bully you, maybe we need a big man up top. Connelly isn't producing the goods - wish he was but so far he looks out of his depth. Ikpeazu has scored a few decent strikes. Its the one area i don't agree with Wilder - up top. Play Watmore from the start until he's knackered also.

Ikpeazu's final 17 league appearances for us (out of 20 total) had 0 goals, 0 assists.

That's why he was loaned out.

He scored a scrappy tap in and a penalty for us before that.

Absolutely zero pace, he wasn't good at heading the ball and as you can see he wasn't really providing much off the bench either, which is what people keep calling for.

Connolly, Sporar and Balogun aren't working right now, but let's not pretend that we'd suddenly have Ikpeazu banging them in if he'd stayed.

I think he'd suit an effective direct style of play to a tee, and would be a useful option in that system, but that's not how we play anymore.

Sensible comment. Knee jerks are easy. I loved Ikpeazu, but never thought he was a top end Championship player, or at the time, even an answer for us.

Tonight we were muscled off the park at every stage in the game. I know he isnt the answer, but niether is Connelly, Bologon or Sporar. We are woefully light upfront.

Bamford anyone....

Our problems were across the entire pitch tonight, not just upfront.

Their four goals did not come about because of our strikers.

We were deservedly beaten.

Yet we still had wasted two huge chances that were harder to miss, and neither came about because of a big man up front.

The mistake wasn't allowing Uche to go out on loan, it was bringing in two strikers who clearly aren't up to it.

Connolly has shown in other games that he is prepared to work hard and press, which will have been a big factor as to why Wilder brought him here, but aside from that he's very limited.

I'm sure Wilder probably thought he'd signed a pressing forward who would score goals at this level; essentially an upgrade on Watmore but unfortunately it was a poor judgement call.

Has done some things brilliantly and other things not so much. Can look ungainly and unorthodox but is actually quite effective in what he does. Scored three times, too, and has made an impact from the bench more often than not.

Transfer status: Chris Wilder seems to have made his mind up on him, but Middlesbrough are said to want to recoup the £750,000 they forked out for him. That'll be too prohibitive for Cardiff unless Boro drastically drop their asking price.

Just shows the state of most champo clubs. They cant afford 750k

Just shows again how good we have it with Gibson.

I like big Uche, he's a proper handful, but as above, doesn't offer enough by way of goals. Unless you're playing 2 up front and he allows a great striker to get in on his knockdowns and score the goals, and maybe allow an attacking midfielder to get in when he's holding the ball up while the other striker is keeping the opposition defence busy, I just don't think it'll work.

This isn't Wilders system so he'll be gone. Shame really!

Isn't this what McGoldrick is being brought in for? Not for his goals, but his link up and whatever else. Heskey esque. CW must rate McGoldricks ability in that role, higher than Uche's which is fair enough i suppose
