Nobody pretends he was Bobby Moore, but the boy stood higher than almost any other in out history and when we needed him he was a mountain.

England international, played at the top level, won trophies and played in numerous finals with the club. Not many Middlesbrough centre halves can claim as much including Pallister, Maddren and Mowbray. I'd say he was top class but i suppose that depends on your definition and context.

Very decent tier two player, but lacked pace, and really struggled in the top flight. Bit like Pears, although Pears was an absolutely top class tier two player who struggled in the top tier.
