Unique Stadiums

Aldershot - with the Telegraph pole in the corner of the ground.
Untitled.jpg
The girder on the right holds up the 1950s cast-iron stand - the middle area of which is blocked off, because it has been condemned. Away fans are situated in that stand to the left, because it has ri-enforced steel girders holding it together! In addition - to get to the away stand you have to go through a wood with wooden steps and gravel pathways - like a nature reserve! Worth a visit before it falls down or gets knocked down

With a nod to tonight, I give you Kenilworth Road. Maybe not unique in a good way, but unique: the last of the true ****holes?

I like this photo as it explains the weird shape of the ground, with the main road slicing off the far corner, and the houses packed in against 2 sides.

Unfettered by space restrictions, stadia become generic/optimal in their distribution of seats. I suppose the lopsided look of SJP is really due to what's outside it too.

Have a look at Union Berlin, maybe not unique but there can't be many top flight grounds with 3 sides still terrace.
Great atmosphere as well.
Still a good few grounds in Germany with running tracks or a collection of different stands, sometimes more than 4 - a bit like Luton

They're planning to rebuild the long thin stand on the left in the close season should they teach the prem.
Not a lot of room to manoeuvre!

I feel Spain has lost some of the great stadia from '82, and I've never been much of a fan of Camp Nou (OK, it's big and a famous team plays there).

I am glad work on the new Mestalla stalled though; I think the old one still the steepest stadium, though I think Dresden may be planning on steeper.
