VAR gets it right - everyone's complaining (Hearts - Celtic)

As a fan of football without much interest in the game - other than it's Sunday afternoon and there's not much else on - I don't understand why all the pundits think the red card as harsh.

Hearts defender misjudges a ball over the top and the Celtic player gets in front of him with the ball reasonably under control about 5 yards from the penalty area (and just the keeper to beat).

Hearts player tugs the Celtic player and brings him down just outside the area. Ref calls the foul and gives a yellow.

VAR looks at it and, rightly, decides it's a clear goal-scoring opportunity that has been denied. Ref checks the monitor and changes the yellow to a red.

For the first time ever, I've seen VAR being implemented correctly and straight away all the pundits have decided that VAR shouldn't have got involved.

Reasons stated so far include the ref saw it; the spin on the ball was deceiving; the tug wasn't that hard; the Celtic player might not have scored...

The Hearts player cynically pulled him down just outside the area to prevent a penalty being given. The ref had a look on the monitor which gave him a clearer view of what happened and who was where.

VAR is awful but if the pundits (who were the ones calling for it) are now going to question perfectly sensible decisions then isn't thast even more reason to bin it?
