Video doorbells

We’ve recently installed a video doorbell and instantly noticed that no one rings it! It’s very prominent on the door and we’ve removed the old standard bing bong doorbell.
Nearly all visitors and regular couriers always rang the old doorbell but they seem very reluctant to ring the video doorbell, choosing to knock instead.
Has anyone else who has installed a video doorbell noticed a similar effect?

Same, lots of delivery people knock on the door before pressing the bell because I refuse to answer until they do

we avoided this by having a standard £10 wirelsss doorbell and using a 24/7 recording camera at the door, which had motion notifications, facial recognition & 2 way audio. Doorbell works as it should but we have all the features of a video doorbell except with 24/7 recording.
People ain’t gonna alter there behaviour coz you’ve got a fancy new gadget
It's not altering though; it's a doorbell. He said people rang the old one. They're probably mistaken in thinking it will record them but it would anyway.

Actually for couriers it's more likely that if someone isn't in it will be a lengthy "just leave it concealed" conversation over a poor connection which can lead to them getting fired if they do and it goes missing. Easier to knock and if they're not in, less chance of them chatting back and forth when time is money

Most delivery people want to get rid of a parcel as quickly and easily as they can. If they ring your bell and you tell them to leave it at your mates house 5 doors down you're costing them time, multiply that by the ever increasing number of Ring style doorbells that are knocking about now and it's costing them a lot of time!

If they leave without ringing the bell, meaning I miss my delivery when I am in, I give them bad reviews in return. They tap so lightly on the door we don't hear them.

Just ring the flipping doorbell. It's there for a reason. 😡

Never had a problem with ours. It gets pressed by all the delivery drivers. I rarely answer it remotely though. There's no point because the signal is always so patchy. We really just use it as a regular doorbell / security camera.

I fitted a ding dong wireless doorbell a few months ago as I wasn't hearing the knocking and missed several deliveries but it gets pressed maybe 50% of the time 🤔

Yeah I have never used the remote chat feature outside of messing with it with the kids or something, but I do like having a record of which delivery guy just drops something on the front door and leaves, often without even knocking let alone ringing

I had to order some foreign currency the other week (yes I know, how 1980s of me) .... It was due to be delivered special delivery ... company insisted they had a signature and photo of my door (not my door, wrong colour) ... had video evidence to prove they never came to my house ... eventually someone from several streets away (same number, totally different road) was kind enough to bring it over to us -- special delivery ffs.

having 24/7 recording has saved me several times with couriers who have said items have been delivered or collection attempts made as I can evidence nothing has been

I had a DPD driver leave a £700 amp by the front gate as he went to the wrong road and an Amazon driver left a £200 parcel in the front garden while we were on holiday for a week and it was twatting it down

Must admit this was the factor which stopped me getting one on prime day. We have a knocker (which we'd obviously remove) but still not convinced people would use the bell without suitable signage!

ThatFragrenceGuy.... I don't suppose you have a link to your recording system have you? Thanks in advance.

You get an alert anyway even if they don't ring the bell, the bell just triggers the chime.

Most people use our bell but even if they knock we still get phone alerts that they have seen someone at the door in the form of a notification that says if it recognises them or not and a small gif of them arriving, can click it to go to live footage or to see the recorded video. Only really useful for historic purposes but mainly I didn't want the doorbell to be "smart" and prone to failure in that respect but still wanted the same functionality

I think it's creepy. I don't want to be recorded by someone's doorbell.

It's odd to think that if someone stuck a CCTV camera up in a town centre ten year ago all the George Orwell quotes would come out. Now people are sticking facial recognition doorbells on the front of our houses and liberty don't give a damn.

Just shows how much our opinions are not our own.

But it isn't a town centre, so nothing like 1984. No-one is sticking them on anyone else's houses. People are sticking them up on their own houses, probably because they got sick of being burgled or ripped off by couriers.
