Vinyl pressing in Middlesbrough

I just hope they get the quality and consistency right.

That's absolutely the #1 issue - if they can crack that they can charge what they like.

Brilliant news- I really hope it works out.
Strangely enough, recently I showed the foster kids my record player-
"What is it?" they asked-
I then showed them an flat square piece of cardboard with pictures and writing on it.
Again the question, "What is it?"
I then slid out a large black disc with grooves in it.
Same question- By now the kids were intrigued "When I was your age this is how we played and listened to music."
They looked at each other in puzzlement.
I tried to get them them to work out how to connect the big disc to the record player to produce music
They worked out that the big black disc must sit on the turntable because there was a hole in the middle of the disc and there was a sticky up thing in the middle of the turntable. After that they had no idea.
So I played the record and they were astounded. They looked at the sleeve and read everything on it. Lots of information about the artistes, songs, writers, instruments, recording studios, lyrics, artwork and artists, dates and so on.
They loved it . Now I need to hide my LP's because I am sure the kids will nick them!

The covers made the records and sometime better than the music inside. :)

Vinyl is the medium of choice again for many, many in music. But as said above costs are off putting but the public will pay more because it looks so much better and also arguably sounds much brighter than the digital sound.

Wait til you show them your wax cylinders from when you were young 😉

That's fantastic (y)

I remember reading a couple of years ago just when the vinyl resurgence was starting that they were all coming from Czech as they were the only country to have original press equipment.

There's always been pressing plants in UK, there are 3 that I know of right now, and also in Germany, France, Netherlands as well as Czech

About 10 years ago nobody wanted vinyl, and I was offered to buy one of the UK plants for £100k cos he wanted out - it's now worth 10x that if not way more

I've heard of loads of bands getting stuff pressed abroad, loads in the Czech Republic but not heard anyone mention UK plants - why are people going abroad so much?

Are the UK plants just overloaded?

It is much cheaper to go Czech but currently the backlog is massive and the cost isn't good at all.
The closer pressing plants will no doubt be hogged by the big artistes.

It's all about time + cost + quality, and GZ in Czech offer the best combination. I've been using them for many years now.

But right now if you're a new customer, you're looking at a 6 month wait with GZ.

I've never thrown LPs out and have quite a few covering all sorts of stuff, and a few years ago I decided I'd fulfil a dream I had as a 19 year old and buy a Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference Turntable (as featured in A Clockwork Orange). Cost me £800 in tip top condition from the HiFi shop in Stockton, including an SME arm, Shure V15 cartridge and the cleaning brushes.

Now, exactly the same kit (except this one on here has a pad missing on one of the turntable posts :) and mine has the Shure cartridge)....

Spares are still available and you can still get them serviced.

Hope you don't mind me asking but what's your story - what are you getting pressed/released/selling????

Hopefully you’ll be doing your bit and pointing people in the right directio.👍
