Not tried this so might not work.How did you get on with cancelling and putting the account into your wife’s name? I’ve done this in the past but they are now saying the address can not have a new account for 60/90 days, basically trying to have you over a barrel.
Ring them up.
Tell them your moving and the new property you don`t need separate internet.
Get your wife to ring up as a new customer.
If they question the same surname say "Well isn`t that a coincidence, you gunna take my business or what?"

Probably a flaw in there somewhere but you never know
Can`t see there being a rule about how many days between new accounts.
I bought my house and the previous owner was with Virgin and they had cancelled the last owners account linked to the address and connected me in a week (giving time to get all the hardware through the post)
or......
you could ring them up and say I understand there will be an increase, I`m willing to pay this much. If they don`t agree and it`s higher than you want you run the risk of not getting a call and disconnected
