Visiting Krakow..

I’m due over there for a short break at the end of the month…

Just watching on the news, there’s plenty of refugees there now….

I’m not worried about my safety but it feels wrong that I should go there for a holiday while this goes on…

It’s a holiday booked through the dreaded groupon voucher and been delayed several times due to covid…

If I cancelled now I’d get no refund which is in the grand scheme of things not that important I guess…

I don’t want this to sound crass like my problem is bigger than the big picture, just wondering how others would feel, would you still go? If I don’t, it’s not gonna change things… it just feels wrong 😟

My mam and her friends fly out to Krakow tomorrow, it's been delayed twice, cancellation and the rebooking of things has meant the original price has trebled, she really doesn't want to go but others in her party do so she's reluctantly agreed, to assuage her guilt and try and do some good she's booked in a suitcase which we have filled with dried food, old clothes, wet wipes, sanitary towels, colouring books, etc and she's going to drop them off with an ex-colleague of mine who has returned to Krakow after working in the UK and will get them to where they can be distributed to best affect to those arriving in the City fleeing Ukraine.

I think you're right, it won't change anything, so don't think there's a massive problem in going. Lots of businesses in Krakow of course reliant on tourists too.

I wouldn't go personally, but that's because it'd feel weird. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it knowing what others in the city are going through. That said you could probably say the same for any large city and any holiday (particularly outside of "the west"). Suppose it just depends how you'd feel about it personally.

My wife’s just suggested the same… I guess that would absolve some of my guilty feelings.. 😟

My wife and I are booked for a very short break in August to Krakow, booked before the invasion.
Who knows what the world will look like by then, but I will not cancel.

My concern is not whether I lose the airfares, but rather I don't want to go and use accommodation that is really needed by those impacted.
I will hold for now and wait to see how Krakow is impacted.

We are donating and when lard **** Patel finally allows us we will take a Ukrainian family in. We have the space and the means; we couldn't not.
A trip to Krakow might end up being how we meet them.

An excellent idea.

I'd also add that I don't think these front line countries like Poland and Hungary, who are doing so much, would want you to stay away. Tourism is a way of showing support for them. Although I fully understand your personal feelings.

Go and enjoy it, be respectful and put money into a country that is supporting refugees much better than we are.

This situation isn't going to go away in days, weeks or months and people will be displaced for a long time to come.

If you see someone who needs it, buy them a lunch/ dinner/ give them some money to help.

You can holiday while also being respectful.

I'm in the same situation. Booked last year to go in April (in about 5 weeks time).

We're 90% sure we're going to cancel. Seems strange to go "on holiday" to a city where people will be fleeing to from war. Not sure how I'd feel about it in the moment.
