Just heard that phrase on TV.
Made me shiver.
What a sad reflection on the country.
Charity is good in many ways, but was it the German comic Henning Wehn who said he preferred a responsible and able government to charity.
I think a regular payment to HMRC is far more worthy than a big cheque on prime time tv to Lenny Henry ( or who ever) each year..
