I’m sat in Italy and wanting to watch bbc iPlayer etc but can’t get it without a vpn…

Looking for a free easy set up to let me watch them in my hotel on an evening…

It’s not a tourist town I’m in so not missing much by sitting in my room with square eyes…

Any ideas? PS, too tight to pay for anything unless I have to…

Opera has one fre and if that doesn't work Nord is pretty decent but will cost you a subscription charge.

TBF Opera normally does the trick for most things I need a VPN for.

I have always paid for a VPN sub. It started when working abroad most of the time - exactly like you, I needed to have access to the iPlayer etc.
They are also invaluable for a bit of security when connected to public wifi, wherever you are.

If you use IPTV then they are also a must.

The one I have used for a good few years is expressvpn

From experience, the only VPN that will consistently enable you watch iPlayer abroad is ExpressVPN and believe me I've tried them all !

The free ones never work and the likes of Nord that others recommend may work for a while but will be blocked sooner rather than later

Try looking for a vpn that has a free trial....we did this while in crete in July...got it free for the week while we were there to watch the cricket on sky app poolside..cancelled it after 6 days

I use ip vanish. Not free, was 40 quid for 12months. Upto ten devices, I've got it installed on two phones a tablet, firestick and xbox. Watch boro games every week on ifollow on variety of devices, works perfectly. Also used it abroad when in tenerife and had no issues.

Dont have Sky but can always stream just about any sport so use a VPN every time.
And ALWAYS use a VPN for online banking.
Another shout for expressvpn.

I feel sorry for you. Italy probably isn't interested in the Carabao Cup.
But in my Thailand we are crazy about English football.
So it's early tomorrow. I'll be able to watch it live.
Thairath TV broadcasts live at 3:00 a.m. I woke up at four in the morning. I'll watch the second half.
It was my first time watching Boro. After Carrick became manager.

Download brave browser it has a built in vpn that works well enough for Netflix and iplayer.

this isn't a response to the op, but a general thought about vpn's. I reviewed my security a while ago, re did all my passwords using a password manager etc. thought I'd go the whole hog and buy a vpn, tested a few, and settled on nordvpn, and paid for 2 years. a few months in, and I've decided to ditch it completely from my phone & computers. too many minor, but irritating issues - cookies, some software issues, speed & hassle. like many things in IT, its a compromise with risk over hassle, and it feels to me like I got taken in by the next "everyone must have this" thing bandwagon, the world was desperate to flog me the next thing you must have. I can concentrate on getting an air fryer now....

edit. I completely see the need for vpn's to pretend you are in another country.... altho I suspect the industry will find ways round this at somepoint

You raise some good points. Use th VPN only when it is necessary.

On your last point, I don't think there is a way for the tech industry to recognize a VPN, it acts as a proxy in the same way your router does. It's also not illegal.
