Want to cancel Sky tv

Was paying over £100 for Sky at one point then i got it down to £36 a month but i'ts barely used. Kids and myself never use it it's always Netflix and the other apps for the kids and I've got one of those iptv firestick's were you get everything. The only time Sky gets used is by the missus because she likes to watch her soaps but she likes to record them and watch them all in one go on a weekend. Is there anything out there like freeview or something that records? Because it seems like a waste of money paying £36 for Eastenders & Coronation Street.

If you have had sky you can still use the dish to get freesat for the main channels and quite a few others. Some modern tvs have freesat built in otherwise you need a box. Our LG tv has it and we haven't had sky or virgin for about 10 years. Tv has all the apps

If you have a fire stick there will be iplayer and coronation Street on itvhub. iplayer is free to watch live, itvhub requires a subscription. You can get freesat boxes that record

If you are with sky you get to go down to the "essentials" package, you get to keep your box to record but you only get Freeview channels .. it's £5 a month.

Im having the same issue with Virgin. My bill has gone up to £147.50 a month, I thought I had a good few months left but when I checked today, the contract actually finished in July! gutted that I've still been paying that but my own fault!. I want to scrap the lot but like you said, we used it for recorded programmes and seems a bit of carry on without the contract. We have broadband with Virgin too. Any thoughts lads????

Depends what you want to record. You can buy freebies and freesat boxes that record. Or you can just use apps, I can't remember the last time I recorded anything.

I've had to move into a temporary rental and got a firestick as the TV only had basic Freeview. I've not missed sky at all to the point I'm cancelling it. I thought the record thing would bother me but all the on demand apps mean I can pretty much watch whatever I want when I want. We do have Disney+, Prime, and Netflix on there.

I'll miss sky sports but I can live without it.

Anyone aware of a way to cancel a package whilst still in contract?
Usually the only way to do that would be if they did a price rise above what the contract state they are allowed which is usually the amount of inflation

Otherwise it's probably cancellation cost of what is outstanding minus some small discount potentially for paying in one go

ITV player and bbc iPlayer

If you still want Sky Sports, use Now TV with your streaming stick, you can usually get it for between £20 and £25 pcm and that gives you all the Sports channels including F1. I havea Roku stick It doesn't do the IPTV thing it is all fully legal and you can use it for Netflix, Disney, etc. My Smart TV runs Android so that also gives Apps for most streaming services.

Itv hub doesn't require a subscription, unless you want to go advert free.

Never had a problem watching live, apart from the adverts. Never been asked to subscribe. Not sure about HD, I assume I'm watching it in HD, but with my eyes, who knows?

Just had a look at the itv hub app on our lg tv and there is no watch live option. I can select channels, so I select itv2, and it lists shows that have been on recently etc

If I put it on iPad or iPhone I get the option, but think you've always been able to do it on mobile devices

Maybe it depends on provider and what they deploy, seems common from the below

I watch through the app on a firestick and also through app on smart TVs and my android phone.

Not sure why it restricts some other devices.
