We need to start talking about Michael Carrick

That was poor but that starting line up was our reserve team in
Coulson
Barlaser
Silvera
Jones
Crooks
McNair
Rogers ( created 2 good chances and did ok )

Fry and Lenaghan have not performed well for a long time now , we look like conceding every time a team attacks .
Only Hackney did ok , and he was off it at times .
McGree and Forss are starters , Silvera and Jones are back ups to them .
Big 2 weeks for recruitment, we are miles away atm .
Its not the reserve team its the first team for 2023/24. Carrick has been shafted by the club he cant work miracles

I've literally said that I don't want him sacked?

No Championship wins in 9 would be a very concerning run, with virtually no goals scored.

I went with 2 because I think that questions would start to be asked by even the most happy clappy fan if we'd lost the opening 6 or 7 games of the season.
Clearly implying it

Looking at recruitment you can ignore the loans I think. I could have told you that Archer, Giles, Ramsey and steffen would be good players. Muniz obviously barely got a kick.

The rest?

Hoppe has gone, Forss is ok, Barlaser looks like a downgrade, Lenihan is great. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Yeah another manager would've prevented 2 unbelievably lucky deflections. One of the most underserved 3-0 defeats I've ever seen.

Op needs to give their head a massive shake.
Agreed. There are lots of things to be concerned about especially the lack of goals but hopefully we'll get some players in before the window shuts. The scoreline was flattering to Coventry they were really scruffy goals and we should have had a couple ourselves at least. We missed some really good chances, Silvera's especially.

Harsh on Forss. Thought he was excellent playing out of position last year.

I can tell when Carrick walk or gets sacked we're going to have the die harders that think none of it is on him.

It's a lot on him to be honest, he's the manager.

Now is the time when good managers earn their salt, you change the formation, you change the system, you play players in position, you bring back basic football. Then you grind out the results, then when confidence returns you try to expand on that.

People blaming players are clueless, there's a core squad there that can compete in the top 8 you have to play them in a way to get there.

If we continue to struggle it will be fair to say that Carrick just isn't that good.

That’s doesn’t excuse his insistence on player Rogers and Crooks together
There's nothing wrong with playing Rogers tbh. Granted he'd have been better starting him in the number 10 slot, but he learned from that and switched them round.
The issue in my mind is starting with Crooks at all.

Other than that glaring Crooks inclusion and given our poor recruitment and bad luck with injuries to Howson and Smith I don't think his selection was too bad, given what he had to work with.

We weren’t four players short when our form fell of a cliff towards the end of last season.
Fry, Ramsey, McGree, Clarke plus the likes of Smith, Forss and McNair carrying knocks too. So erm, yes we were.

Please think before making random claims.

Clarke??

Knocks???

Clutching at straws - poor argument. We all know which players we are talking about here and it’s not ruddy Clarke and it’s not ruddy McNair having a knock.

Clarke not playing being used as an excuse for poor form and I’m the one making random claims??

Well clearly you're not the one making random claims, as it wasn't you I quoted??

We are well off it at the moment. The impact on losing Archer, Ramsey & Giles is massive. They have not been replaced at all and I think it will be very, very hard to replace them with the money being thrown about.
We can’t compete with Leicester and Southamptons with parachute payments. Gibson won’t spend heavily since the “smash the league” comments which backfired. He won’t spend heavily again. Those days have long gone.
Hopefully the recruitment team have players in mind who can replace some of the players in the first 11 at the moment because we aren’t good enough, yet. I would say we still need a good 4 experienced players and we will make the playoffs. Two games in. UTB

It was a clear reference to the 4 players alluded to in the post it was responding to.

All teams have players carrying knocks.

Do try to understand the context.

These poor starts are a reflection on the shameful way the club is run. Certainly not the manager
yeah - agree with this. You get to the edge of promotion and you would think we should be able to kick on. Unfortunately, like other clubs we are heavily reliant on loans and when they move on - we need to start all over again. There is no momentum. Having said that, look at Coventry - lost their 2 star players and still managed to roll us over

People said we needed to talk about Karanka 3 games into the 2014/15 season. Last year they said the squad was miles off it and we’d be in the bottom half looking down rather than up. They’re probably the same people who say we ‘scraped’ promotion in 2016, said Hackney had no chance at this level after his loan at Scunthorpe and that Steffen was a liability because he dropped a cross at QPR. They said Tommy Smith was sh*t, and Akpom was a waste of space, that Lenihan wasn’t good enough, that we had no chance without Tav, that Warnock performed some kind of footballing miracle and always say that an ‘experienced’ coach is required to help Carrick whenever we lose.

There are issues for the coach and the recruitment people to resolve but the way some people react to our games just seems OTT IMO. It’s all about Chuba and Archer today but we had them for the Coventry games last season. How did those games go?

Look at Southampton now, for example. They’ve conceded three in the first half at home to Norwich. Every single team has really big issues to resolve, it’s the second week of August. It’s so, so, so early to be going in so big with such definitive opinions. Some people just cannot wait to stick the knife in.

I will no doubt be shot down by the usual suspects but this sort of posting seems to happen every year, right back to when I started posting in around 2008/09ish. There’s always a sense that some people lack perspective after a defeat.

We need some players in of course. There are things that need sorting out. But, again, people were loving it on Tuesday night and now look at it. Beat Huddersfield next week and nobody cares about today.

We will be absolutely fine this season. It’s only my opinion obviously but we’ll be fine. Just have a bit of patience. Things are absolutely nowhere near the levels of ‘badness’ that some are claiming.

I know what’s coming next in terms of insults, but it’s just my opinion. This has happened on here every August for 14 or 15 years, whether we finish top middle of bottom. Usually somewhere near the top as it happens.
