Weather with you

There seem to be a lot of well travelled people on here so just thought of a question.

What's the hottest and coldest weather you've experienced? And where?
Mine is 41 degrees in LA whilst running for a plane. Coldest is -13 experienced in rural Normandy. The latter was odd. Didn't seem THAT cold but the next day it was -1. Oddly that felt warm, I guess cos it was 12 degrees hotter

Hottest was Tenerife at a place called Los Gigantes (sic). The Missus and I were there at the hottest time of year and it touched above 40 at times each day. Otherwise, working in Saudi Arabia in May was hot too.

Coldest definitely South Korea. I spent a day inspecting a rig in December with the wind howling down from Siberia. I was f*cking freezing.

That’s a good one. I would never have thought that South Korea was that cold a country

If it was a Tornado, someone would go and pull the circuit breaker in the nose bay and lock you in there for a laugh. It was never a laugh in the Gulf and it only happened once when they realised how quickly the liney dehydrated and started to pass out in a very short period of time.
Hottest for me was probably the flight line in Saudi dressed in full NBC suit, gas mask and carrying a SLR rifle and full webbing, and loading missiles onto the aircraft as part of a quick turnaround.
Temperature wise was beaten by the Omani desert where a digital weather station eventually melted at 55 degrees.
Coldest? Stornoway in February. Side winds, side sheet rain and open airfield with no protection from the elements and dug in to a trench waiting to be attacked by the RAF Reg! For hours!!!!
Yup, a Tonka with the canopy cracked open a bit, which didn't help and the riggers weren't to keen on lineys towing like that either! As if someone did that to a liney in the gulf, it was bad enough in there on a UK summers day!

Out in a leather jacket over there? Wow!

Saying that, in 2003 I was running for air raid shelters in an NBC suit, with a gas mask and helmet on. After the third one I didn't bother, getting blown up seemed more appealing than running for the shelter in that $hit.

You're right about the fluids though, that's why people struggled more in Kuwait than in Qatar I found. It wasn't because it was hotter, it was because it was so dry, people didn't realise how much they were sweating as was instantly drying. In Qatar we had drenched clothing most days, due to sweat, so it was a constant reminder what you were losing.
The leather jacket trapped the moisture in - like a wet suit. It was a festering mess inside there but kept you hydrated - happy days :ROFLMAO:

Hottest was Rhodes in mid July got up to 42 degrees no problem possibly higher by 2pm - Only people out in it were Brits, some looked to be cooking in oil some will probably have skin problems now. It never dropped below 30 at night and we had no air con - hard to sleep.

Coldest minus 20 in this country - Xmas day 2002? I couldn't get the car out of the garage because the lock and mechanism was frozen - after 3 hours of warm water and some sun it came free at minus 13 - I had to drive 250 miles and was late for Xmas day meal!

Same here for Rhodes, Pefkos. It was 35deg when we got there at 10.30am and just got hotter. We gave up and when back to our hotel at Lindos at 13.00. Way too hot. Unfortunately our apartment door was metal o_O and got the sun in the morning. So it was jut like having a giant radiator on full blast.

Coldest was St Paul, Minnesotta. -25. It gets a lot colder than that though.

That's crazy for the canaries, the temperature seems so consistent whenever I've been (about 10 times), it's always breezy and seems to be between 17-27, everywhere I've been any time of day, any time of year.

Does that happen often?
Hi Statto it happens about half a dozen times a year. It starts when you see a yellow band on the horizon, then it can (but not always) get very hazy and the temperature will rocket in just an hour or so. It stays in for a couple of days, it will only be hazy the first day, second day it’s just hot. When it goes out again everything is covered in dust. When it goes out the temperature drops just as quick.

Last summer I was in Teguise in the middle of the island (not costa Teguise) it was hot anyway, 34C by the time I drove down to Yaiza it was up to 44.

It's a crisp, cool day out there today, Scotland looking decent (for a change) in the background.
