My son passed out of hm's raliegh about 20 years ago now.

30 years in the RN, 3 in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and still going.

It’s a shame that some have branded the armed forces as not worthy enough, maybe not even of a solitary bugler or a pat on the back for serving the country in times of need. I for one will always support those who serve in the knowledge that for the many who do often have to fight, or even die to protect us.

I was very proud to serve for the short time I did, one tour of Afghanistan and out.

I look forward to the bugle on Saturday and seeing the women and men who still serve.

I believe there will be a detachment of Paras from Catterick on Saturday, along with a few of us old fuds.

Kids need to value their freedoms a lot more than they maybe do. It’s too bad that there are many wars on the planet of course but at the same time we as British citizens have been lucky enough to have nearly 100 years of relative peace, and long may it continue thanks (in part) to our security services.

Depends on how you look at it— when was the last time Britain was invaded? Did we keep our land free and (relatively) peaceful?
