Wembley of the North - It is bleak for Rochdale

Rochdale are looking for £2m in funding for them to survive whilst Jim Radcliffe is talking about building a multi-billion pound stadium and wants the tax payer to pay for it. This is the reason why taxpayers, can't and shouldn't even consider getting involved in this vanity project.

I remember going to Rochdale with @gregorgregorovich when Malcolm Allison was our manager.

Edit: I am wrong about going to Rochdale under Allison, he wasn't our manager.

Regardless of the fate of clubs surrounding Manchester (Bury, Oldham, Rochdale) there is no way that public money should be going to a PL club. Especially one as rich as Man Utd. I don't have a problem if the City of Manchester want to help with favourable rates and planning permission, that sort of thing but there should be no money to fund a new stadium from anywhere other than the pockets of the billionaires who own the club as a vanity project/plaything.

In short fkk right off Radcliffe. Let's not forget your pledge to build the Ineos Grenadier in Wales before the Brexit that you championed to such wonderful effect (now being built in France).

Fkk right off Jimbo and when you get there fkk off some more.

There definitely will be public money spent on it but likely improving the infrastructure around it to support a mega stadium in use 365 days a year rather than the odd day every fortnight.

If a "Wembley of the north" is needed, then why didn't someone suggest that when they built the Man City Stadium for the Commonwealth games? Instead Man City were given it for a fraction of its cost.

I took my youngest to a pre-season friendly there as a baby.

A couple of my mates support Rochdale (well, as well as City 🙄).

Why does a "Wembley of the North" need to be built in Mcr anyway? Why not Leeds or Newcastle......or even you know where

Because Manchester is the North don’t you know

Could be worse, could build one in Sheffield and give United or Wednesday a free ground

Sad thing is Rochdale are barely in debt compared to a lot of lower league clubs, they just have no working capital. The stadium is valued at £4-6M.

Their share structure is a nightmare though.

Just for context, it would be Trafford Council rather than Manchester City Council.

TC were already looking at a possible regeneration scheme around the area of Old Trafford. Stretford is becoming gentrified with young professionals now snapping up property as areas such as Didsbury, Chorlton, Sale and Altrincham have become ridiculous.

I think TC should be investing in the area as it's got a lot to offer, but this should not at any point include subsidising the construction of a likely multi billion pound stadium for one of the supposedly riches football clubs in the world.

I suspect both schemes, with a stadium and boulevards etc central to the wider regeneration, would effectively feed off each other.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
