What’s the difference between us and Sunderland?

We are going through a rough spell and I think if he started them today we could of got a hiding (i know we nearly did anyway) i think he went for a more experienced team today it didn't work.

I don't think silvera is upto it tbh. I wrote rogers off immediately but he has shown he can create. We need to put them away. The others we have to see. This spell were having we need our experienced players to step up,today they were no where near again
They are what they are reserve team players that may or may not reach it but far too many what ifs.

They need a senior pro up top to guide them and we don’t have one.

FWIW I think it’s something more mysterious than anything mentioned so far 😂

I think the difference comes from two linked ideas:

The first is the how last seasons playoff failures were perceived

And the second is in that bit of “magic”, the “chemistry” that cannot be quantified but ultimate makes a team a great team.

For the first part - last season was Sunderland’s first year back in the championship and they made the playoffs. While they were disappointed not to go up, they weren’t so desperate to get up that the failure broke them. They’d been down before and still feel like they have momentum despite losing to Luton, For us, it was different. We felt like we NEEDED to go up. We’ve toiled for years now and with important players contracts running out, it felt vital that we get promotion. And many EXPECTED it. So the disappointment was huge.

This then feeds into the squad chemistry I think. I can’t imagine the lads who stayed this summer felt like we were an improved group given the loses and recruitment. Whereas Sunderland, having lost a manager last year and not relied on Stewart due to injury, probably didn’t experience this.

All conjecture of course. But 🤷🏻‍♂️

Our plan is pretty clear for people to see but our fans haven’t got the patience
We can see the plan but we also know when it’s not working.

Carrick on last week of window we need another striker a senior pro.

His words not mine.

The plan is obviously long term, the only way to get out of the championship and back into the Prem and successfully stay there is to play the long game
Of course we could of done with another striker but we weren’t lucky enough to get one, just because part of the plan fails it doesn’t mean we should just pack our tools up and go home

Preston are a better comparison

We beat them 4-0 at the back end of last season with 2 players different from the XI we have available now

They are 15 points clear of us after 6 games

Its purely form, and the manager has to find a way to get players in form

All we are gettign from carrick now is the players could not have worked harder, so you have a probem there straight away because lack of effort is not the issue,
it is the way the players are being managed and instrcuted on the field

Seriously interested to know what people think is the difference. Both teams:

•lost their best goal scorer
•lost their best loan players
•and recruited relatively cheaply.

So… why are they flying while we are anchored at the bottom?

Note: this is not a veiled attack on the manager, but a genuine question to poll the thoughts of the board.
Today they lined up 4 - 2 - 3 - 1
They had ekwah in their two .. not a 36 year old
They had Clarke on the left of the three , not O'Brien ( who is NOT a wide left player )
They had a left back not making his debut

...
Generally I'd say the difference is ' round pegs vs square pegs '

Oh and qpr had a fella sent off

That only works if you have senior players that can do it in the meantime.

Sunderland are signing rough diamonds for Mogga to polish, Boro are signing turds for Carrick to polish 👍

We have numerous senior players, unfortunately some of them aren’t performing to the standard they previously have done. I’m sure Carrick would of loved a few more senior players to be brought in but there’s no point just bringing in anyone and we clearly lost out on our targets, which realistically is to be expected as we aren’t the most attractive club in the league

Boro have a plan as well though. Just because it isn’t working at the moment doesn’t mean there isn’t one. It might eventually work, it might not. Not every plan is good. Some of them are sh*t. But they’re still plans.
Ours was produced by our long standing Head of Planning………
a Mr Baldrick Gibson I believe

But we haven’t as latte lath wasn’t meant to replace akpom we needed a striker to replace akpom carrick all but admitted in his coburn interview..,it we never got one.

Coburn was all but sealed to Plymouth this season. He was not meant to be here hence why carrick won’t use him.
Could argue that makes Coburn an exact replacement for Akpom. Both went into the season as a player the manager didn’t rate and tried his best to get rid of, but ended up stuck with. We got very lucky after that and I don’t expect lightning to strike twice but it might at least be worth playing him.

Not up top we don’t

There is ling term and there is really really long term

We are in the latter stage since relegation from the Prem - when the aim, articulate by SG …… was to get back into the prem pdq

Tony Mowbray is perfect for the Sunderland job.. experienced, great with young players, knows how to find a player!!

Carrick is learning to do it all at once from scratch.

FACTS

All facts apart from Mogga is perfect for Sunderland - that is conjecture.

The others are the key facts mind

FACTS
Carrick doesn't have to do it with young players.. esp young to this club and the league in general

Dieng
McNair / smith Lenihan Fry. Whoever

Barlaser /howson O'Brien hackney

Jones/ forss Crooks/ forss mcgree/jones

It's a choice to bench / pick / formation..

But there's plenty of experience

How are we in the latter stage of a plan that looks like it’s only just recently been put into motion? We’ve previously relied on signing established players or loaning players out of our price range, it now seems like we are focusing on cheap young players who show potential but aren’t at the standard of pushing for promotion

I thought that when they were looking for a new manager tbh.. and I was bang on the money.. unfortunately. Want to see the guy do well.. but jeez!!

That’s fair
I guess a better response would have been there have been a host of plans in place since relegation - all designed to get us back.
Still not there and a long way off in the moment.

That’s all well snd good but you need players to do it in the mean time whilst these experimental players learn.

Sunlun brought in Pritchard snd now Dack to do this. We haven’t got anyone of that type/seniority in the squad up top.

We have no contingency plan.
