What are your views on digital currencies/mining?

That sounds bizarre. Are you sure it wasn't spam?

How would your account be compromised after such a short time?

Agree though it might not be a good idea to invest if you're not confident
It was genuine so it's knocked my confidence to invest. I was planning on using their wallet. Ideally I would like to use an external wallet like a hard drive but I have no idea how to do that. I think I'll have to YouTube it. I'm not even sure if my terminology is right here!

I signed up recently and the sites do seem a bit flakey to say the least lots of crashing and unusual behaviour. It’s not taht complex but it is a few more steps than the uninitiated person who is used to buying shares would expect. Once you get the hang of it it’s not too hard though.

I did it recently - it’s a bit of a faff but quite straight forward once you get used to it. If you do go down that road happy to help if I can.

Yes I’d say it was a spam email that just happened to be sent when he’d coincidentally set up an account. I get emails constantly saying my accounts have been hacked

Thank you, I appreciate that. I was always told to never look a gift horse in the mouth, so I may well come calling for advice if I decide to take the plunge again. 😁

For anyone worried about coinbase etc there are people that have hundreds of thousands of not millions sat in their accounts. Coinbase is about as safe as it gets when it comes to crypto exchanges if you set up your 2FA aswell.
Do not ever reply to ANY emails that are about your account no matter how genuine they look. I’ve had accounts with multiple exchanges for 5 years and never had a genuine email asking me for info other than confirmations and identity docs when first signing up.
Yes they will go offline for ‘maintenance’ during any kind of big jumps in price, binance is specially bad for this. But it’s just games they play.

That said no matter how safe exchanges are it’s always better to have your coins in a wallet where you are the custodian. You are probably going to be ok with smaller balances below £10k, but if you’re planning to go big then your money is in their hands really.
