What Concerns You About Football?

Behaviour of some fans at away games etc.
Do you not think that comes across like ‘we’re all a bunch of violent asreholes’ and the majority of fans end up suffering on the whole as a result of over the top policing and poor stewarding?

Fan Culture:
You can expect an increase in trouble from a game that is poorly officiated.
Extortionate ticket prices will give fans a sense of entitlement.
You cannot sell a family atmosphere whilst milking the very adult world of gambling which in turn leads to increased stress, risk taking, financial losses, drug taking. They go hand in hand as too does the drinking culture surrounding football.

With the best intentions in the world the answer to poor fan behaviour will always result in increased policing, harsher penalties and greater restrictions.. all without attending to the root causes of disorder.

I will start this post by saying I don’t go to many away games. For reasons below.

I certainly wouldn’t take a child to an away game.

When I do go to an away game I see far too much twattish behaviour. Starting on the trains travelling to games, in the pubs beforehand and in the concourses and stands.

Sorry if this comes across as me being a bit boring or stuck up, or not a proper football fan but I’d rather not spend my free time surrounded by moronic individuals behaving in such a way.

As per usual the minority spoil it.

I’ve taken kids to away game, on the trains more often than not you’ll witness or experience a rowdy carriage of fans on the drink (not exclusive to boro fans and not a behaviour that is isolated to football fans) rowdy, loud, intimidating for opposing fans.. but generally good natured.

Into the stadiums piled up into to crowded concourse where selling plastic pints is the order of the day. a huge dim, stark crowded concrete box with thousand of plastic pints being handed around and the whole are plastered with gambling companies, slogans etc

Watching the game you’re often in the Punch and Judy show of.. who are ya! this place is a shythole! is this a library? what the fcking hell was that? etc etc etc.. we’re on the left side, we’re on the right side.. plenty of tvvatish behaviour on show from around the stadium, football is a ballet, it is an opera, a game of chess.. but it definitely does have the Punch and Judy element.

all of these things pale into insignificance when compared to being kettled with kids and pepper spray being used indiscriminately.. that is something that effects ALL fans. there is no need for it and it doesn’t help alleviate the nation’s drinking culture or current cocaine epidemic.

it’s how fans are treated that cause the issues.

Fair enough. It’s just not how I want to spend my free time. Or money on. Maybe I’m getting old. I don’t find away games a pleasant experience. So I don’t bother.

It’s a different kettle of fish isn’t it and it depends on what games you can make it too. Some fans are better than others, some stadiums are nicer, some police forces are better than others. It can change depending on where you are sat too and you can’t always choose when the tickets are in high demand.

1. The increasing polarisation between the elite/richest clubs and the rest at all levels and now including the women’s teams.

2. The effective decline of sporting competition, it is now a funding/richest owner competition.

3. The continuing disconnection of the richest clubs from their traditional positions and roles in domestic competitions and localities by the deliberate long term aspiration to establish European or World Leagues.
Sums it up for me.
