What did JWP do to Gareth Southgate?

Another 2 assists today, most in the premier league. Incredibly consistent over the last few years, incredible set piece taker.

Why on earth is he not in the England squad? Has he slept with Gareth's Wife? Absolutely baffling
 
It is a weird one. I'm a big fan of Southgate and think he's done an excellent job as England manager but Ward Prowse's continued omission does seem very hard to understand.
Does make you wonder if something has happened behind the scenes to colour Southgates judgement of him. Or maybe just doesn't rate him as a player? 🤷

Who would he replace, I’m not really a big follower of England but we do seem to be very well represented as an attacking unit. Would he replace Philips or Henderson or is his game very different?

Not trying to argue or even disagree just curious.

I think Phillips and Henderson are both very good players, but one has played almost zero games at the top level for almost two years, the other is playing in a very inferior league and is 33.
I wonder if the issue is whether he can play in a two instead of a 3?
 
It's a very strange situation right now.

Henderson has never been particularly impressive for England under Southgate, but he's undroppable from the squad, despite retiring.

Sterling used to be the same, but has seemingly been dropped even when his form has been excellent.

Ward-Prowse has always struggled to get in the England squad under Southgate, he should 100% be in it over Henderson and Phillips though.

Cole Palmer as well has played well in recent weeks. I’m all for giving players in form a call up to the national side. The likes of Rashford shouldn’t be picked based on his form a year ago…

Rashford's form for England is still good.

It's the balance between picking based on domestic form and based on international form.

Some players are more suited to international football/the tactics that the national team play.
 
Would definitely have JWP over Henderson in the squad. Neither probably starters but JWP just has something different that can come on and change the game.

I wonder if he was picked he wouldn’t be on set pieces, so negates a big part of his game?
 
He should be in for his set pieces alone but his all round game is very good too. If you need a goal at the end of a game, it’s always beneficial to bring someone on who can put the quality he can into the box or ping a free kick in the top corner. There’s nobody better at that in world football right now that I can think of.
