What shape defines your music taste.

Ok going to try something here. Very few of us like only one artist /genre, so if you were to define your musical taste what shape would it be and who/ what would be at he points?

For me a hexagon in no order

Black Sabbath / Metallica
Retro House Music
Ben Howard / Pearl Jam / Bob Dylan etc
Miley Cyrus (especially newer stuff- ironically related to older stuff by others)
Nina Simone/Ray Charles/Etta James etc
Classical- especially English Pastoral (probably gets the most air time)

I'm with Goalscounger on this one. I think the vast majority of people will have a fairly wide musical taste. I'd go so far as to say limiting yourself to very specific genres is just odd.

You must like certain genres more than others though?
For instance I’ll happily listen to most music but a lot of genres, I’ll just listen to and don’t necessarily define who I am, even though I don’t mind them, whereas my missus automatically turns down the radio whenever she walks into the room and there’s either Classical or. Dance music on and only likes pop/ light indie music

Trip hop and ambient remain my guest houses, but when it comes to where I live, this is my house; our house:

In the beginning there was Jack ... and Jack had a groove And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared "Let There Be House" and House music was born. "I am you see, I am the creator and this is my house And in my house there is only House Music. But I am not so selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes our house and our House Music. And, you see, no one man owns house because House Music is a universal language spoken and understood by all. You see, House is a feeling that no one can understand really unless you're deep into the vibe of House. House is an uncontrollable desire to Jack your body. And as I told you before this is our House and our House Music. And every House you understand there is a keeper. And in this house the keeper is Jack. Now some of you might wonder who is Jack and what is it that Jack does. Jack is the one who gives you the power to Jack your body! Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake! Jack is the one who gives you the key to the wiggly worm! Jack is the one who learns you how to whop your body! Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all Jackers together under one house! You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew or Gentile. It don't make a difference in our house. And this is fresh!"

This thread definitely sounded better in my head 🙁
I can see what you're getting at and I could probably pick stuff out from the other end i.e. what I definitely don't like.

I'll give almost anything a chance and spend a fair amount of time sitting in open-mic nights wishing people would just do a different Oasis or George Ezra cover to mix it up a bit.

The only things I'll actively turn off are rhyming-couplet 'rap' (anything under the broader rap umbrella), experimental jazz that gets too samey, and prog rock that ends up being a poor-man's experimental jazz.

The first because I don't see the point of turning a poetical form into just a stream of conciousness lyrical style (it works with a decent melody as with much Oasis but just reinforces the meaninglessness when it's rattled off to a repetitive beat). Tell a story, ffs.

The latter two because I just don't have the time or inclination to be excited by hearing 15 ways to play the note E in 4 minutes. Pling. Pling pling pling. Pliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm guessing my shape would be a circle with a couple of minor divots.

One song I love listening to that always lifts me & most likely highlights my taste

Class, 1974 too & wearing Boro strip from that era

From 50's, 60's, to the great glam rock I've gone on to enjoy pop, punk, new wave, northern soul but I always enjoy this tune, basically any genre of music in any decade I would always favour the poppish records

Here's mine.

The point in the middle is a single. Eton Rifles by The Jam.
Then it works through concentric circles of Led Zeppelin/Pink Floyd/Black Sabbath/NWOBHM/Other Rock then Hawkwind and Gong. The triangle is when I started listening to Frank Zappa. After that it gets complicated :)

Mine would be guitar shaped. I like a wide spectrum of music, but without a guitar it doesn't float my boat.

The heavier the guitar and the level of distortion the better, in terms of getting the blood pumping

You are absolutely mental mate. What SHAPE is it? I worked in the arts for decades and nobody has ever asked me anything so ridiculous before. I really like 'The Country Teasers'. They're just SO dodecahedron. Give your head a bit of a shake or give me some of those lovely drugs that you've obviously been taking. 'Oasis' are definitely **** and balls shaped though. Or possibly twin **** shaped. FFS you've got me doing it now too.

I think the second bottle of red might have had something to do with it

I know what you mean. I started a bit of a controversial thread about football last night after I'd had a few drinks and some of the reactions to it really weren't very pleasant. People on here are generally lovely but some of them can be really scathing and hurtful.
