What the Chelsea game confirmed about Isaiah for me

If the lad finished like Forss does, he'd be a premiership player.
Before the season started, I'd of had Forss starting, with Jones as the 60 min sub.
Unfortunately Forss is injury prone.
Jones has been exceptional since the sheff wed game, Nobody wants to play against him at full back.
It's his shirt to lose.
Even if all three options are fit at the start of next year, it's his to lose.
And Silvera , currently, would be a distinct 3rd

I've not read the whole thread, but I did note some comments about crossing which I think need context.

Across the top division, less that 25% of crosses find an attacking player, and 1.6% result in a goal. Link

Accepting that is the standard, Jones does very well. I've seen him produce 2 different types of crosses in the last 3 home games that have resulted in goals.

Don’t come here with sense

He works really hard, love that about him. I bet there’s more a few players at Tooting & Mitcham level who have all the skills and can do the baller stuff, but how you make a career at the higher level is being willing to run yourself into the ground when defending.

Isaiah got a lot of stick when his form dropped, which was unwarranted anyway (young players usually have a dodgy second season) and especially so since we learnt about the personal issues he went through.

I absolutely love him.

I’m confused by a lot of fans views of Jones. He’s a winger who can also track back so useful as a wing back. But in the attacking half he’s our main threat. At times he’s unplayable. The opposition often double up on him and he causes panic whenever he gets the ball. We are a much better team with Jones bombing forward!

Its not a lot of peoples view .. it's about 10%

The op is a troll. They wanted to double down on the original thread without resurrecting it to get responses so i guess they’ve got what they want

No, you’re one of the main posters who troll this forum or just insult people.

This isn’t a double down I’m voicing my opinion on where I think he could best be utilised in our team.

Forss is injured , has been for a long while.
At least three weeks away from starting match fit.
Imagine Silvera is not called up for international duty
Who would you play right wing , if we're not playing wing backs for the next three weeks?

For now Jones but when Forss is back and match fit I see him slotting in on the right.

I've no issue with Jones, great player but can be inconsistent like most young players but after reading the Hackney thread and everyone saying we will sell because we need to sell one player every year to balance the books, I could see Izzy being that player this summer rather than Hackney. Out of contract 2025 and think his form this season will attract strong interest, plus we are well stocked in that area.

Adomah used to get very similar criticism despite consistently being one of the best wingers in the league.

Yes, I agree. I think crossing is probably the hardest skill In the game. Not the most useful, but the hardest to do constantly well. Part of the statistical issue is that you're dependent on other players for the cross to connect.

I think fans tend to equate "skill" with dribbling, partly because that's what they like to see, and partly because that's what was considered skill in the playground, but I'd argue crossing is harder to do well.

I gave him grief the last couple of years, and not with standing his personal issues, even prior to some of that, he had lost his way a little.

He has clearly really knuckled down and worked hard on himself this year, improved a lot. He's stopped two of the biggest things that irked me about him.

1) when trying to put a cross in, he had got into the habit of always trying to play it through the defender. They wised up to this and he stopped getting assists for a while. Now he's mixing it up going outside his man, coming inside, and occasionally when appropriate, like on on Tue putting it through the defenders legs.

2) When back tracking, he got himself into a mindset of going to ground in desperation. This led to numerous goals against us when he missed, particularly in the first half of last season. He stays on his feet much more now, and puts pressure on the attacker through staying tighter.

This has improved him both ends of the pitch, and he looks a top champ player again. His pace, particularly against teams with a high press, will always cause teams problems, doesn't matter what league they are. What does he need to work on next? A bit more variety in his crossing, curled, flat, lobbed, driven. Shooting, I've never really seen him effectively put his laces through the ball, seems to lack a bit of power/technique/confidence to do it. If you add in the ability to hit a 20 yard screamer then that's another big dimension to his game
