What's the best gig you've ever been to?

One of my favourite gigs is one I nearly didn't go to due to a break-up. It was The Raconteurs supported by Vampire Weekend several years ago at the Eden Project.

The whole day was great even before the bands came on. The cider was flowing (and potentially a Bob Marley cigarette or two) and the sun was shining.

Then Vampire Weekend hit the stage, followed by Jack White and his Raconteurs. It was magical.

p.s.
I don't remember my lift home afters 😁

It's a struggle to separate The Wildhearts Earth Vs Shepherd's Bush Empire show 2007, Father John Misty at Halifax Piece Hall and The Cribs cribsmass gig ... two nights at the Leed sTown and Country club as was and Doll By Doll at the Rock Garden. Feck.... I give up. Too many brilliant shows to mention.

I like Vampire Weekend a lot.

I’m torn between Bruce Springsteen Born In The USA tour at St Jimmy’s and Wham at Whitley Bay Ice Rink. I appreciate there is a world of difference in all your heads right now, but Wham were frickin good live.

Just asked the missus. She enjoyed seeing Bruce Springsteen when she was very young.

Also a soul music reunion event at Wembly Arena.

Number one was Chic, like me. Followed by ringside seats seeing Chris Rea in London in his prime. Courtesy of my elder brother, the roadie.

I have alot, alot because support acts became some of my favourite bands.

Trivium + In Flames + Ghost + Rise To Remain - Newcastle 02
Killswitch Engage + Trivium + Miss May I + Battlecross - Newcastle 02
Trivium + Chimaria + Whitechapel - Newcastle 02
Trivium + As Lions + Savage Message - Middlesbrough Empire
Bullet For My Valentine + While She Sleeps - Middlesbrough Empire
DragonForce + Sabaton + Sylosis - Middlesbrough Empire
Slipknot + KoRn + King 810 - Newcastle Metro

Festival bands that stick out

Metallica, The Prodigy, New Model Army, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Biffy Clyro, All Time Low, The Winery Dogs, Bill Bailey, Volbeat, Weezer, Limp Bizkit and loads loads more.

Only bands on my bucket list are
System Of A Down, Rammstein, Sleep Token and Knocked Loose

Too many to mention but Massive Attack and Morcheeba in 1998 (not the same gig) were both fantastic, in their heyday.

Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton (same gig, c. 2010).

Rolling Stones at Twickenham in 2006.

A number of U2, McCartney, Kasabian, Madonna and Oasis gigs have all been good, but obviously you don’t earn any kudos for saying those.

The real answer is a bloke called Junior Mack and his band in Terra Blues bar, Bleecker Street that went on until about 5am in 2006, including him playing a version of All Along the Watchtower we requested that lasted about half an hour alone. Was pretty drunk but remember it vividly.

Just checked and they still play there every weekend, 17 years later (I have been back since 2006 too). Would love to go back again soon.

What a difficult question..

I was lucky enough to be at the first comeback gig of The Specials .. the whole " will they / won't they be as good " was a big factor.

Added in .. there was a lot, and I mean a LOT of very big and loud people in that small indoor Carling academy in Newcastle.. ( including several buses from either side of glasgow) it was very very tense at times ..
All that energy went very very positive as they were ridiculously good .

Other big one was seeing Tony Bennett at the Las Vegas Hilton ..
He was beyond what a man his age could sing like ..
And the audience did look like it was 1/3rd Paulie walnuts.. 1/3rd junior Soprano , and awful lot of handshaking
