When to overtake the Blades?

While I appreciate that results will ultimately dictate events, I just wondered what everyone’s view is regarding when it would be best to overtake the Blades.

Would you want us to get ahead as soon as possible, or leave it late?

I would worry that getting ahead early might increase the pressure on us (as it has done to the Blades), whereas we seem to be thriving on chasing them down.

Not sure I would want to leave it to the Coventry game, but in an ideal world if we were 2 points ahead with the last game to play and with a superior goal difference then a point or more against Coventry would see us up.

You can but dream!

Interested to hear what others think!

It’s gonna be close.. too close for comfort. I’d rather be ahead sooner rather than later.

If we’re 82 points after Hull.. we might be in with a shout.
3 points separating the two teams with three games left.. one loss and it’s over

Sooner.

If we get ahead of them I could see us pulling away. Luton would be the one to worry about then.

Potential shades of our 96/97 season for Sheff U if they're not careful.

After we play Rotherham, we'll only have Coventry at home left, whereas Sheff Utd will have 2 games remaining (Huddersfield away and Birmingham away).

I am hoping we are ahead of them by 3 points by FT @ Rotherham.

I think they'll beat Huddersfield in the following midweek very easily - they're an extremely poor side. And then it'll be down to GD...and you've got to assume if we're level points by then, then our GD will be better than theirs.

I'd happily take a final day shoot out.

Us v Coventry and them v Birmingham.

Id rather it be as soon as possible, you saw the panic when we got within 4 imagine actually going above them.

Regardless, looking at the run in, i think its a massive ask to overturn it now. Really hoping to busy April due to the FA Cup causes them problems.

If we do overtake them, which looks unlikely given that they now have a pretty easy run-in then, it looks something like this. It shows us overtaking them on 14th April when we win away at Bristol City (a historically tough ask) after they lose at Norwich and Burnley.

They overtake us again on the 18th after beating Bristol City at home but we reclaim the lead the next night when we beat Hull City at home. They would have expected to overtake us in early May when they played their rearranged game against Huddersfield but Agent Warnock came up trumps.

Whenever we can.

Though obviously it'll be more upsetting if we don't go up automatically if we'd been 2nd at any point.

The games in hand complicate it, if we do manage to leapfrog them at any time, I hope it's done in a way where we'd stay there even if they win them both.

Really doesn't look great for us...Should be a doddle for Sheff United that.

We just need to focus on us but If they do lose against Norwich and Burnley and we beat both of them, then that could really put the cat amongst the pigeons as they say!!
if that happens we finish 2nd.

There is 2 however that concern me more.

Bristol City (A)
Luton Town (A)

If we can win those 4 Sheff Utd will bottle it. Part of me really hopes they go to admin and get a points deduction but another part of me wants it won on the field where it should be.

All in all, i just hope we bloody do it

Agree, This is where it will be decided . Possibly their WBA game rather than Norwich but the Burnley fixtures are key.
