When you fancy Cod and Chips...

When I was a kid it was the chip shop.

It was located in a small parade of shops towards the bottom end of Saltersgill Avenue.

In the same area I think there was a mini supermarket, a butchers, a sweet shop, a betting shop, the chip shop and an old fashioned grocery store. Sadly I cannot remember the names of any of them. Also, I might have missed out a shop or two or got some wrong.
Pat's Pantry was one :)

Yes. Correct.
I seem to remember it was Downings at the far end of the block. Between the pub car park and the chip shop.

Updated: Not sure but I think the sweet shop was Potters. As a little kid I think I was sent up the alleyway sometimes to buy a packet of cigarettes for my mam.

There's some really good names out there these days that are abit more creative than golden fry

I like some chip spice on my chips why is this a hull thing?

Chippy or chip shop here too. Chipper is an Irish term, I think, Roddy Doyle wrote a book called The Chipper. About a chip van.

Book name correction below, and it’s very funny 🙂

The film is funny as well.
I'm pretty sure Slaven gets a mention.

Or Parly Fisheries, though not as nice as Paddy's.

Chippy or Chip Shop for me.
When we used to go to my aunties when she lived in Wicklow St, me and my cousin would get detailed off to go to the fish shop.
The instruction was always "Go to Paddys, not that Chinese one" 🤣

For the record you can't beat YK Chows scallops👍

That rings a bell too!

the usual Cod Supper
Hang on, one of "them" has got over the border again. Back to Jockland with you! Seriously, does anyone other than our Scottish chums call "Fish and Chips" a "Fish Supper"?

Oh and usually I would refer to such establishments as "Chip Shops".

"Chipper"? Never heard it said.
