You will not be buying anything in the west end with that budget apart from something old which needs a lot of work. You could maybe find something in West Park or High Grange, Some places around the town towards the west end but the houses in that area do not stay up for long as for others talking about the villages surrounding Darlington then you will be in same position unless you want something to do work on and bring up to a spec that you would be happy with, on flip side of this tradesman in Darlington cost a canny bit also so you would maybe need to take this into consideration also.
