I started using the free version of Proton VPN a while back when my old chrome VPN extension died on me. I don't need to use a VPN very often but Proton seems to work fine for the things that I do use it for.

I use Goose VPN, mainly because I got a very good lifetime deal earlier in the yeae. It's gone up in price since I bought it. But I think it works really well, even compared to the more established VPNs for streaming. The IP seemed to leak at first, but they've fixed that now and it works well.

I suppose the annual price is pretty much in line with the more established ones, now. But the lifetime offer is really good if you're going to keep using it. I used to use Pure VPN as well, that was pretty good.
