Who has been our most decorated player ever

I would assume the Scottish league was more competitive back then and Celtic were obviously good enough to win the European cup but was the rest of the league strong or was it a given that Celtic would win it every year (or at worst finish 2nd)?

I know exactly what you mean regarding the strength of the league and in truth, I don't think anything has really changed other than Aberdeen and the Dundee teams competing in the late 70's early 80's. If we are using that argument against him though, then the same must be said regarding the majority of the European leagues and especially the dominance of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Man Utd, et al.

They have had periods of dominance but Utd & Liverpool have only won 39 of 123 seasons (32%). Barca & Real have been more dominant at 61 of 91 (67%) but they have also been the dominant teams in Europe so it is an achievement just to play for those teams. Rangers & Celtic have won 107 of 126 (85%). Scott McDonald has been SPL top scorer for Celtic and Kris Boyd is the all-time top SPL scorer so we know what the standard is like now. Currently, the top of the SPL is incomparable to the top of La Liga but it might not have been back then. It's well before my time so I have no idea. I suppose the question is were they dominant in a strong league like Barca, Madrid, Utd & Liverpool or were they dominant in a 2 tier league where it was a Rangers/Celtic coin toss.

Scottish football was a lot stronger then to what it is now and the two players you mentioned wouldn’t have got a game.

The Lisbon Lions team was excellent and many could have found a place in any European team but that didn’t really happen then.

I think though you need to look at the question again, it asks who is the most decorated player and doesn’t mention you get extra points for the medal being more prestigious.

Bobby is up there with the best and wouldn’t look out of place playing with them.
